We only get the standard edition in german. You could order the Collector’s Edition from Amazon.de, but it would be in english.

Prima is working with the developers of their featured games very closely. They are told about every implemented feature, how everything works, etc.
They also get to play early versions of the games every now and then and have access to the finished games as soon as they go out of beta and into production.
Also the guide itself is definitely not finished yet, but printing a book and shipping it all over the world takes less time than producing game discs an shipping them.
So, in short: Writing these guides is a quite long process. They don’t start to write them once the game is completely finished. That’s the point when the guide itself is almost finished as well.

If the game is still unfinished or was unfinished until very, very recently, as so many people have been claiming, how on earth can Prima have a hard-copy guide to the game that is both complete and accurate? Either the game was finished long ago and/or the book is going to be sadly lacking.

Collector’s Editions are also generally hardcover with an embossed (not always) cover, whereas regular guides are softcover.

For the Sims, yes. But they have offered other in game, or game related downloads before, namely for the Assassin’s Creed franchise that I know of, right off hand. .

The only thing I see that are different between the two is the collector’s edition has some Q&A’s and behind the scene stuff that the regular guide doesn’t.
