I updated my game and it doesn’t work at all anymore. I deleted everything EA, reinstalled, and I could play offline. So I went back online and allowed origin to update with “patches” and my game doesn’t work anymore. I’ve seen 100’s of complaints about this issue around the internet so I am filing a complaint with the FTC. EA should not be permitted to sabotage one game in order to force consumers to buy another game that isn’t as good. Shame on you EA!!!

Say what you want about EA saving the day etc. etc. I don’t care if Origin “has got better”. The fact is: it’s still bad. It still p***s me off, and I don’t see it stopping p***ing me off until it’s gone from my life completely. I don’t like having to sign in to ANYTHING to play a game. I would much rather play the sims as I did with the sims 1 and 2. Without having to install Origin on my computer and without having to have internet connection to install a game that can be played offline. And since you say that EA had bought Maxis even before Sims 1, then it means that EA has actually gone downhill by introducing Origin and causing all that unnecessary trouble 😀 And to all the people out there who say: “don’t like it, don’t play it”, I say: I’ve been with this franchise from day one. I have seen it change. The game is good, but some of the decisions were bad. Just wanted to point that out. Over and out.

this update also makes it so you can’t save your sims to your library anymore. quite a few people have experienced it.

That is odd. When my Origin updated, I got this version: Version 9.5.11.2855 – 363764. Also, my game fired up right away, as per normal.

It’s a pretty random problem as it seems. A lot of people have encountered it, but then there are just as many people who haven’t. It’s unfortunate but it’s just something that can happen if your juggling with as much data as Origin does. They’ve actually gotten better with their updates. In the early days of Origin there were some extremely bad problems, which is part of why it still has such a bad reputation.

I’m hearing so many complaints about this new origin patch. Were we given this patch so we can’t play our game anymore or…? I’m actually being serious. It seems like this patch is only causing problems not fixing them….

As Pedro stated, EA bought Maxis years before The Sims was released. 3 years prior to the release to be exact. By that point the idea already existed but was far from being in any playable state. It was when EA bought Maxis that Will Wright got the go on putting all of his efforts into the project instead of trying to repair a sinking ship.
Back then, there were only two major publishers who would have been able to buy Maxis and still make a profit out of it, those being EA and Activision. And I’m pretty sure we can count ourselves lucky that EA was the one making the acquisition.
That’s why it is so ridiculous when people say EA ruined Maxis or The Sims. Maxis managed to ruin itself. EA saved the studio and made the creation of the best-selling PC franchise of all time possible in the first place.

I play in windowed mode, when I started up my game I had like a startrek effect the picture would repeatedly shrink into blackness, I found that if I used my mouse to pull the window smaller it stopped and then I went into the gamesettings and changed the window size back to what it should be and it was fine after that. I loaded my game again today and its fine now, so perhaps the patch just messes up your initial windowed mode setting or something 😉
