Sims 2 and 3 used the same game engine sims 4 is using a new game engine. They will most likely add a “Farming pack” or “Small animal” pack in the future though. I never really used the small animals but I do like having the option to have them. If they can make it better then sims 3 and 2, might be worth the wait.

Extremely excited about the pack, though.

But weren’t them just objects which we could feed and play? I’d really like to see them here tho.

For me, it’s not just some face expressions and animations. emotions pretty much effect my gameplay. you see, a certain emotions gives boost to leveling some skill. Let’s just say painting, I want my sim to master painting skill in a quicker ways. Unfortunately he is sad, so in order to do that I have to cheer them up to make him inspired. It makes more sense in that way and this is just an example. Personally it add depth to my gameplay because it effect the way I think about making decisions, and act. Like you can’t flirt when you’re sad and you can do some stuff when they’re only in a certain emotions.
For the ‘sit’, well idk maybe they can do a certain stuff only when on there, ok I was wrong for picking that up to an example. Maybe kittens and puppies can fly or something, who knows what feature they will introduce.
When in TS3 pets I keep wondering why can’t my cat walk on those counters or that table because that’s what cat do all the time. For me, I like when they give more personality to the game. idk about you but it’s just my opinions. and we just see the sneak peek trailer. don’t get me wrong, I don’t agree with some of their decision. I respect your opinions, we have our differences and let’s just put it aside and moved on.

Traits and moodlets compounded and actually impacted gameplay. Emotions just give you different animations to do the same things.
How does walking on stuff add gameplay? What do you even do with it other than just look at it? See, this is a big problem of TS4. They spend way too much time doing superficial stuff like that without really caring about making the game fun to play for longer periods of time.

This is what I’ve been crying about the last few years. Sounds like they understand, now let’s get more everyday things weather, ice cream truck, hot dog stand man at the park, etc. More jobs, and everyday things to do.

I swear some people will always find a reason to say EA/Sims 4 is the worst.

On another note, if we could get Season and University too, I’d be the happiest simmer ever.

Granted, AI was poor back then but we have no indication it will be any better in TS4, given how Sims auto-manage.
To be fair the fact that their animations are more life-like to me doesn’t replace actual gameplay elements. It’s like the Sims team claiming that multitasking and different kinds of walks made up for the absence of toddlers in the basegame. All in all its pretty to look at but does it really add new gameplay to make players actually play with the pack consistently?

They didn’t act like real pets and were stiff with the way they moved. So far these look so much more lifelike and as though they will act like pets and behave differently based on their personality and training. We really haven’t seen what they’ve done with them though, all we’ve seen is a small glimpse as they’re going to spread out the release of information over the next few months.
