Maybe say that it’s not random? Maybe we have a “Galaxy Quest” situation here, lol. They watch a lot of “Modern Family” on Space-Netflix and became so enamored of the culture that they just had to imitate it. Which would explain why everything in the Sims leans towards the very rich and the modern. Also why they’re so forward on things like LGBTQ+ issues. (The original Sims game was the first video game to feature gay relationships, by a lot.) I just suppose we should be happy that the aliens didn’t become obsessed with “Orange is the New Black” instead, huh?

From what I’ve seen, the console games seem to have had far more instances of truly humanizing Sims, but the fiction works reasonably well with the PC series for me.
I just accept Sim-Time and Earth-Time as completely unrelated phenomena. Unless I missed something in Seasons, I wouldn’t bring Gregorian timekeeping into the mix, just leave it as a presumed solar calendar and avoid any further assumptions.

And I actually don’t like it as much. The whole point of the Sims is that it’s timeless. Which it almost has to be — you go through two, three, five, ten generations of sims. Ten generations; that’s 200 – 250 years. And yet Great-Great-Great-Great-Great-Great-Great-Great-Grandmother Amelia lives in the same culture, wears the same clothes, speaks the same language, has the same technology, etc., as her great-great-etc-grandchild. Weird enough if they live in some fairy universe that is like and yet not like our own. Frankly impossible if they live in suburban Phoenix, Arizona.

Honestly, this iteration is the first that has many references of the human world (i.e., dates, locations).
Maybe I will be able to whip up some explanation in the future XD

You guys do such an impressive job making it look like this is a real news story. Quick question: how will the Gregorian numbering for the years work? What’s Year 1?
