My vampire sim drank from someone without their permission. It was the middle of the night and nothing happened. Later, she drank from another sim … but someone else came along and saw it. Not only did it affect her reputation in a negative way, she got a few calls from her friends telling her that they heard what had happened and drinking from sims without their permission is not cool. That distinction — other sims have to see to have it affect your sim — is such a nice feature. It adds a lot of depth. Not only do you need to pay attention to what you’re doing, but who’s around to see you do it.

Are you a female celebrity and a guy was seen leaving your apartment in the wee hours of the morning? Unless you’re married or dating someone else, who cares? In real life, that celebrity would be labeled something that rhymes with “boar” and something else that rhymes with “mutt”. Your celebrity sim can parade a long line of lovers in and out all the time, and no one cares, because no one’s getting hurt.

I also like that other sims have to witness your sim doing something for it to affect their reputation. Sims 3’s reputation system was always a bit creepy to me, because your sim did something and everyone just somehow KNEW.
