That really sucks for people on 32 bit. On the one hand the 32 bit limitations were part of the reason ts3 was so laggy by the end if you had all the packs/store content, but on the other it’s not as if people can just run out and buy a new computer. I don’t even think most people could afford to upgrade every 4-5 years as recommended (wish I knew who came up with that one because it’s ridiculous no matter how many times I hear it). My own computer is 64 bit but it’s also going on eight years old now. I estimate before 2020 I’ll have to have some cash saved up…

Mostly everything is going 64-bit in the future so at some point trying to play the Sims is going to be the least of your worries…..good luck getting online, navigating a website, or playing any game at all. 32 bit is going to produce the same results as somebody still trying to use Windows 95-XP!

That’s fair. Art style aside then, the more simplistic/less detailed textures is a design choice they made for this game (probably so it runs better on granny’s potato computer, or whatever). I wouldn’t mind a bit more dimension to the grass, but it is what it is. Speaking of grass, the grass texture from 2 & 3, specifically, would look very out of place in 4, as it doesn’t fit in with 4’s overall aesthetic.

Apples oranges. The Sims 4 and The Sims 2 (and 3) both have a completely different art style/aesthetic approach (more realistic look for 2 & 3, vs stylized for 4). Yes, 2 & 3 have more detail in their textures, but which of the 3 games looks better overall, is subjective.

I absolutely don’t dislike the look of 2 & 3, but I like the look of 4 as well. One thing I don’t like about 3 though, is that shrubs and trees are just some flat, 2D models that rotate along with the camera.

You can have a cartoony art style without it being so lacking in details. Look at Sims 2, and if you know how to do it, look at the textures of the game file. They’re smaller in size than Sims 4, yet feature a LOT more details. So in game, the textures look better than in 4.

So basically, saying it’s the art style doesn’t excuse poor choices, lack of details and lack of polygons in the objects. You can have the exact same art style with better textures, rounder edges and higher frequency.

After this month’s gems, it seems actual TS4 development is dead, and the only tech we actually need to keep up with the Grant & Pals show is a beefy smartphone & twitter.
