You can search the history of OS and hardware architecture, and recent focus on “UX” due to decentralization of service/authority, to see the trends. Interface opacity/color/animation, client-side in-page processing, and minimalist displays/data/components are trending due to increased interest in distributed processing, scripting, and energy efficiency. EA can’t row their boat against the industrial current.

Might have been a poor choice of words with the title though. It’s generally considered rude to rub your marks customers faces in their own submission by calling them Betas so obviously.
You’re supposed to manipulate make them feel like they’re empowered Alphas. That way, you can soak them for more §§§ as you’re also selling the experience of being important instead of a RL NPC being shaken down for §§§.
Par for EA competence out of marketing, but someone dropped the ball again.
