Not by bugs though. It’s plagued by some rather questionable design. Modders have already toned it down, as Runaway Gecko mentioned.

2) I’d still like the core features; the different vacuum cleaners and the fact that there’s dust now to clean (well, only from the floor, so it’s somewhat half-baked as is)

3) Disabling or toning down the above list of things doesn’t take much away from the core gameplay offered

I also seem to periodically enjoy picking apart terrible design decisions a bit too much and The Sims 4 is an easy target because I know the franchise like no other (while it also happens to be filled to the brim with said type of decisions).

The gameplay is extremely obnoxious. Rooms either sparkle all over or they gather dust, which of course they do really fast. With a household of 6 Sims expect to have one of them obsessively vacuum clean twice a day. Cleaning a whole floor takes a few Sim minutes of them doing an animation in one spot but it’s about as fun and impactful as watching them drink water. They also tend to continue to clean for longer for some extra clean buff regardless of whether they have the neat trait or not. In between giving in to their OCD Sims keep the device in their inventory so don’t expect them to neatly put it back in storage for a sense of realism or anything. Of course the mechanic also constantly adds moodlets as if the game wasn’t enough of a nail bomb of those as was. Dust bunnies can spawn in corners where you can’t interact with them. The aspirations are a nice try at ingratiating players but living in a clean house makes absolutely no sense as a one-time goal and living in a dirty one, well, doesn’t make sense at all. I honestly expect that by far most people will end up disabling this one faster than you can say laundry day or “People Sim” lifestyle, unless they happen to have a hoover fetish like the Sims themselves seem to do maybe.

It all just adds to the feeling that this game has become some kind of crammed, filthy hoarder house that the developers just keep stuffing with more junk. Its many tedious gameplay elements added over the years left to gather dust in some unfinished, unbalanced beta stage.

It just adds to the feeling that The Sims 4 is like a drowned corpse drifting around in an increasingly bloated stage. Its many tedious gameplay elements added over the years left to gather dust in some unfinished, unbalanced beta stage.
