SimGurus have been busy answering questions and giving players some more information on The Sims 4 Living Expansion Pack. Below is a roundup of tweets over the last week.
A number of you have asked about the legacy edition. We have decided to postpone the legacy update for TS4 for now. All players will be able to buy and enjoy the Island Living Expansion Pack when it launches June 21.

It does have seasons for players with that EP but it is a tropical destination so don’t expect snow. It will rain more in the winter though.
— Michael Duke (@SimGuruDuke) June 11, 2019
Residential
— Michael Duke (@SimGuruDuke) June 12, 2019
Only in Sulani at this time.
— Island Lyndsay 🌴☀️🐬 (@SimGuruLyndsay) June 11, 2019
Sorry, let me clarify 😁 Bad wording on my part: Suntans & Sunburns are exclusive to Island Living only. So if you want to drop a lounge chair in Del Sol Valley & catch some rays, you can do that too!!!
— Jill Johnson (@SimGuruJill) June 12, 2019
You know, I talked to them about it at length, and after much discussion they worried the water might be a touch too shallow, so we opted to keep the legs in that scenario. Gotta keep those fins hydrated, you know!
— Jill Johnson (@SimGuruJill) June 12, 2019
Yaaas absolutely new fish. Clownfish & other new gorgeous colorful beasts.
— Jill Johnson (@SimGuruJill) June 13, 2019
I have 0 insight into future plans, but we made sure to not close any doors.
— Jill Johnson (@SimGuruJill) June 13, 2019
Yup! We have quite a few new tropical ocean fish to catch like the Mahi Mahi and Celestial Grouper. Out in the wild (but not catchable) you may find some sea turtles, jellyfish, sharks, and dolphins!
— 🍍Tropical Seafood Chowder 🥥 (@SimGuruChowder) June 12, 2019
Nope, Sims can take odd jobs anywhere! There are a few that ask you to travel to some place in Sulani or do Sulani things though, so make sure you read the description!
— 🍍Tropical Seafood Chowder 🥥 (@SimGuruChowder) June 12, 2019
Yup! If your Sim is at a beach lot, lifeguard NPCs sometimes come visit to make everyone feel safe with their muscles 😂 (they like to pose)
— 🍍Tropical Seafood Chowder 🥥 (@SimGuruChowder) June 12, 2019
Yep! There's a special something that, when consumed, turns a Sim into a Mermaid! You'll know it when you find it 😉
— 🍍Tropical Seafood Chowder 🥥 (@SimGuruChowder) June 13, 2019
I love that idea! Unfortunately, radios and speakers won't work on off-the-grid lots. We really wanted these lots to feel completely different so we made the decision that pretty much anything with electrical components wouldn't work. This does give me ideas though… 🤔
— 🍍Tropical Seafood Chowder 🥥 (@SimGuruChowder) June 14, 2019
Yes, any Sim can turn into a mermaid using Mermadic kelp (my spelling is probably off) and you need to find it in Sulani. You can mermaid offspring but they don’t grow their tails until teens.
— SimGuruFrost ✈️ Sulani (@SimGuruFrost) June 11, 2019
They are a CAS item 🙂
— SimGuruFrost ✈️ Sulani (@SimGuruFrost) June 13, 2019
Haha. We had so many debates about that tailin the dev team. Our art team goes through am obsessive amounts of details to make sure you get the best mermaid tail experience. 🙂

Now that we can say it… he's talking about the Clothing Optional lot trait! (Which comes out for free with the patch.) It's hilarious.
— MerMorgan🧜♀️ (@SimGuruMorgan) June 11, 2019
So information for funsies: though the Volcanic Activity lot trait does come slotted into the lot next to the volcano… you can put it on ANY LOT. Or all of them. Why not all?
— MerMorgan🧜♀️ (@SimGuruMorgan) June 11, 2019
They land on any tile outside, so they won’t land on apartments with all ceilings or no outdoor space.
— MerMorgan🧜♀️ (@SimGuruMorgan) June 11, 2019
Any world! Volcanic Activity for all the Sims!
— MerMorgan🧜♀️ (@SimGuruMorgan) June 11, 2019
Been dying to share this picture. Bears keep showing up to my Clothing optional bar, and all of the people are like "Why are there bears here?!" SO GREAT. @tazreentasnim pic.twitter.com/1B0YNswG5T
— MerMorgan🧜♀️ (@SimGuruMorgan) June 11, 2019
It's a built in visual prop. That's a bar that functions like other bars.
— MerMorgan🧜♀️ (@SimGuruMorgan) June 11, 2019
Volcanic Activity, Island Spirits, Off-the-Grid, and Clothing optional are all removable from any lots they're placed on. Oceanic Paradise is a new lot trait that comes pre-slotted into some lots, and it cannot be removed. It doesn't do anything dangerous though.
— MerMorgan🧜♀️ (@SimGuruMorgan) June 11, 2019
Oceanic Paradise cannot be added to lots. It is where it is (similar to certain lot traits in City Living). Beach is a new venue type, so you could make an Oceanic Paradise Lot any type of venue you'd like (including beach). Does that answer the question?
— MerMorgan🧜♀️ (@SimGuruMorgan) June 11, 2019
The lot trait causes volcanic tremors, fissures from the ground, and volcanic bombs to fall from the sky. These things can happen on any lot, but it is neat when it happens next to the volcano for flavor. 🌋
— MerMorgan🧜♀️ (@SimGuruMorgan) June 11, 2019
When lava bombs are hot you can try to touch them. There's a chance you'll catch on fire. There's also a SMALL chance that when they land, they'll catch your lot on fire. Normally, that doesn't happen though.
— MerMorgan🧜♀️ (@SimGuruMorgan) June 11, 2019
You mean three Volcanic Activity Lot traits on one lot? My goodness! That'd be crazy. I'd imagine if you want more, someone could potentially mod the trait to make it more dangerous. We tried to balance it however, so that it isn't too obtrusive.
— MerMorgan🧜♀️ (@SimGuruMorgan) June 11, 2019
Yes, the weather updates are for if you have seasons.
— MerMorgan🧜♀️ (@SimGuruMorgan) June 11, 2019
When Sims sunbathe, they will eventually get a buff letting you know they're tanned. If you don't exit the interaction, they will burn. The burn eventually wears off into a tan, and a tan will also eventually go away.
— MerMorgan🧜♀️ (@SimGuruMorgan) June 11, 2019
You can also prevent a burn by clicking on your Sim while tanning and applying sunburn protection.
— MerMorgan🧜♀️ (@SimGuruMorgan) June 11, 2019
Suntans/burns will work in all worlds. You can't get one while it's night or if it's too cloudy, however.
— MerMorgan🧜♀️ (@SimGuruMorgan) June 11, 2019
Hopefully, the CC properly has Alphas setup. It really depends on how that was done. If they haven't done alphas properly, you could have weird lines or it could look like you don't have any lines at all.
— MerMorgan🧜♀️ (@SimGuruMorgan) June 11, 2019
Face paint won't affect it.
— MerMorgan🧜♀️ (@SimGuruMorgan) June 11, 2019
You should see the prank suntans.😉
— MerMorgan🧜♀️ (@SimGuruMorgan) June 11, 2019
Suntans shouldn't break them, but if the CC clothes aren't setup properly tans might not work well with them until they're fixed.
— MerMorgan🧜♀️ (@SimGuruMorgan) June 11, 2019
Tans/burns are overlays on top of our basegame skintones, so it’ll work on replacement skins that are roughly the same complexion and in the same order/slots.
— MerMorgan🧜♀️ (@SimGuruMorgan) June 12, 2019
It's a new base game Lot Trait coming out with the patch for Island Living. 🥳
— MerMorgan🧜♀️ (@SimGuruMorgan) June 12, 2019
Re-tanning/burning will reset the countdown on time until you lose your tan/burn. It’ll also update to your newest tan/burn outfit. So you can change lines if you want. They don’t stack.
— MerMorgan🧜♀️ (@SimGuruMorgan) June 12, 2019
Sims can suntan as an interaction when using a lounge chair, float lounger, or beach towel. Mermaids can tan in the water. We also are shipping with player-facing cheat to set a tan on a Sim and allow you to lock/unlock tans/burns from going away.
— MerMorgan🧜♀️ (@SimGuruMorgan) June 12, 2019
They don’t have to use sunscreen. Just watch their buffs and cancel the tanning interaction if they’re starting to burn. You’ll also see a red vfx glow to warn you.
— MerMorgan🧜♀️ (@SimGuruMorgan) June 12, 2019
Sims can sunbathe in any world as long as it’s sunny.
— MerMorgan🧜♀️ (@SimGuruMorgan) June 12, 2019
No, we felt that might be too micromanagey. However, the weather being cloudy or rainy will prevent you from sunbathing.
— MerMorgan🧜♀️ (@SimGuruMorgan) June 12, 2019
We adjusted them per skin tone.
— MerMorgan🧜♀️ (@SimGuruMorgan) June 12, 2019
Vampires are dead, so their skin doesn’t tan. I don’t recommend they lay out in the sun long. It’s deadly. 😛
We haven’t done spray tanning at this time.
— MerMorgan🧜♀️ (@SimGuruMorgan) June 12, 2019
Sims can sunbathe as an interaction on the towel, lounge chair, float lounger, or as mermaids in the water. There is also a player-facing cheat to set a tan/burn on a sim and lock/unlock tan/burn decay.
— MerMorgan🧜♀️ (@SimGuruMorgan) June 12, 2019
Can they tan in the nude? 🤔
— Nurgik Plays 🌴🐚🐠🐬🧜🏻♀️ (@Nurgik) June 12, 2019
Yes 😎😎😎
— MerMorgan🧜♀️ (@SimGuruMorgan) June 12, 2019
Conservation is both active and rabbithole. The new part-time careers are rabbitholes. Some Odd jobs are rabbitholes and some are active.
— MerMorgan🧜♀️ (@SimGuruMorgan) June 12, 2019
Toddlers can be mermaids, but they won't begin mermaid transformations until they become teens. Puberty! It does crazy things. 😂
— MerMorgan🧜♀️ (@SimGuruMorgan) June 12, 2019
Dogs can swim in the ocean.
— MerMorgan🧜♀️ (@SimGuruMorgan) June 12, 2019
That's not a thing with weather. Maybe the confusion is coming from the Volcanic Activity lot trait. When a lava bomb falls, after it cools, you can crack it open and there are sometimes gems and other metals inside.
— MerMorgan🧜♀️ (@SimGuruMorgan) June 13, 2019
Yes, but because they aren't submerged they stay in their human form.
— MerMorgan🧜♀️ (@SimGuruMorgan) June 13, 2019
Never really thought of it… but you aren't wrong. pic.twitter.com/yjuOtG1HHt
— MerMorgan🧜♀️ (@SimGuruMorgan) June 13, 2019
There is something special about Grim when you die in the water… 🤫
— MerMorgan🧜♀️ (@SimGuruMorgan) June 13, 2019
YES! They're kind of rare, but there are a few places you can see Jelly fish during the day. (Don't get too close or you might get stung.)
— MerMorgan🧜♀️ (@SimGuruMorgan) June 15, 2019
Her name is Nalani.
— Rebecca Doyle (@SimGuruRad) June 9, 2019
Island radio station has major Hawaii vibes.
