The Sims 4 Base Game has been updated to include a new “likes and dislikes” preferences system. When entering Create-a-Sim, you can select up to 20 different likes/dislikes from three different categories: Color, Music, and Activity. To open the preferences module, click on the slot directly below your Aspiration module.
❗ If you own The Sims 4 Dream Home Decorator Game Pack the “Decor” category will also be available for Teen/Adult Sims, for a grand total of four categories.
❗ Sims can also gain preferences when performing certain actions in the game, or learn the preferences of other Sims by using targeted actions.
When click on each category, a dropdown will appear with all the options available in that specific category. Directly below each preference, you will see a happy and sad face. Those represent a like or dislike. Green for like and red for dislike.
Alternatively, you can use the randomize button and the game will select three (3) random preferences for your Sims. Be aware though that this option overrides and erases selected and earned preferences that your Sims may already have.
If you have all available DLC packs installed in your game to date, there will be additional preferences available for selection. When/if you install The Sims 4 Dream Home Decorator Game Pack, you will also have a 4th Decor category with additional options.
The following table contains a complete list of preferences in the game:
Once you have selected preferences for your Sims (or earned them while playing) you can view them at anytime in the simology panel. Use the “Enter Create-a-Sim” button and alter preferences. To see which likes/dislikes a Sim has, simply hover over the category icon.
Preferences will influence a Sim’s reactions to everyday activities and interactions. If a Sim has the “Dislikes Fitness” preference, they will react negatively to exercise. If a Sim has the “Likes Gardening” preference, they will react positively to planting a tree. There are plenty of positive and negative moodlets to accompany the various scenarios and you will notice a Sim’s Fun meter increase and decrease accordingly.
Sims use the new Friendly “Ask About” interactions to ask other Sims about their favorite colors, hobbies, or taste in music, and can even enthuse others about something they like.
Alternatively, Sims can also complains and whine about something they dislike. If Sims have two different opinions about the topics of discussion, they may suffer a hit to their relationship.
There will be additional opportunities for Sims to acquire more preferences by doing normal everyday activities in the game. If a Sim starts to enjoy exercising, there’s a good chance the game will generate a pop-up notification to ask if you want to add the like or dislike to your Sim’s preferences. Here’s a few examples of triggers that would generate a pop-up:
What a rush! This boost of adrenaline is making Veronica feel amazing! Should she firmly embrace with her astonishingly sculpted arms that she Likes Fitness?
Crouching on the ground with worms and dirt? No thank you. Veronica is not reaping whatever it is that she is sowing. Is it time to admit that she Dislikes Gardening?
