The Sims 4 Drops New Skin Details: Wrinkles, Spots, Stretch Marks and More!

Sul Sul, Simmers

I’m Ash, a Producer on The Sims 4, and I’m excited to introduce you to the latest free update to Skin Details in Create a Sim!

It’s been a year and a half since we released our Vitiligo update, and Skin Details remain a meaningful part of how players express themselves in The Sims 4. Whether you’re creating Sims who look like you or people you know, telling a story, or simply exploring all the different kinds of Sims you can make – Skin Details help bring those ideas to life. We’ve heard from many of you that you want more ways to reflect aging, skin variation, and lived experiences, and we hope this update helps you tell those stories even more fully.

As we’ve continued to look at more ways to expand representation in The Sims 4 Base Game, we realized we wanted to give a little extra love to Elder Sims. Once we were set on Wrinkles, Age Spots and Dark Spots, we also decided to add Rosacea, Freckles with more coverage, and new Stretch Mark options. I’m so proud of what our artists created for this update, and I can’t wait for you all to try them out!

As the Producer for a team dedicated to the ongoing enhancement of The Sims 4 Base Game, I oversee the development process to ensure everything runs smoothly from start to finish. I connect different teams to keep things timely and on theme, and I get to help decide what we do! Each release relies on our Art Directors’ vision to guide our artists, align with design goals, and ensure the final result is both authentic and high-quality. We worked with two Art Directors, Tracey and Cheyenne, for this release, and I’m incredibly grateful to collaborate with such dedicated teammates!

Tracey, you helped shape this update from the start by guiding which Skin Details to include. How did you go about choosing them? What’s your favorite detail?

Tracey: My main focus was to add age and body mass representation to the game, to promote diversity and improve representation in game. My favorite detail is the body wrinkles, especially the knees and belly buttons. We can see how beautiful aging is with these gorgeous details added to Sims.

Cheyenne, you oversaw the development of these Skin Details from concept to final art. How did you and the team bring these to life?

Cheyenne: Our goal was to depict authentic wrinkle shapes but make sure they fit in style with the game and similar existing skin details, we ended up simplifying some fine lines to let the larger shapes shine. The artists worked hard to give Sims a variety of unique choices with these added face and body options.

Thanks so much to our Art Directors for sharing a bit about their process! Now, let’s take a look at the new additions in more detail:

Wrinkles & Age Details

We’ve added new Wrinkles and Age Spots to Create a Sim, designed to help Elder Sims feel more unique and expressive. You’ll find options for Mouth Wrinkles and Eye Bags, as well as Age and Dark Spots for the cheeks and forehead. We’ve also included Upper and Lower Body Wrinkles, available with or without Age Spots and in multiple densities.

Stretch Marks

We’re expanding our Stretch Marks options with new additions for both the Upper and Lower Body. These come in various options designed for the torso, arms, and legs and are available in both light and dark tones, just like the Stretch Marks we added in 2023.

Freckles

As someone who’s speckled head to toe, I’m personally excited for this one! We’ve added new Freckles for your Sim’s face and their whole body. These were created in a style similar to the Freckles from The SIms 4 Growing Together Expansion Pack, and cover everything from shoulders to ankles. The face designs also cover a broad area, and all Freckles come in light, medium, and heavy densities.

Rosacea

Rosacea is also now available as a skin detail in Create-a-Sim. While we initially considered this for Elder Sims, rosacea is common across many ages. You can choose from three options that show different levels of redness and irritation.

We hope you enjoy the new Skin Details and get a lot of use out of them! We’re excited for what’s next – whether that’s more Create a Sim customization, culturally-inspired additions, or new recipes (and more)!

Check out the FAQ below, and if you have any other questions, feel free to drop by the official The Sims Discord or visit us on the The Sims 4 Forums.

F.A.Q.

Can the new Skin Details layer with others? How about Tattoos and Body Hair?

Yes! Each one will layer in a determined order, and you can layer them with both Tattoos and Body Hair.

Can I choose the color of the Skin Details? What about the pattern?

You can’t change the detail itself, but you have various options for how light or heavy it is, and light and dark color options.

Can the shape of the Skin Details change based on a Sim’s body?

Yes. Skin Details will adjust some depending on where you stretch or move their skin or body parts. If you change a Sim’s body part, the details will change with it.

Will the Skin Details carry over as my Sim ages? Can I add or remove them?

Yes, as your Sim ages the details will stay with them. However, teenage Sims do not have access to Wrinkles.

Will the new Skin Details work on Child Sims?

Not at this time, but we plan to add more Skin Details for kids!

Benji's basic traits are creative, goofball and foodie, but he likes to think he's unlocked a few others already. Born, raised and still living in São Paulo, Brazil, Benji has been playing since the day The Sims came out in 2000, and he likes to spend his time equally in live mode and build/buy, where he usually honors his heritage and creates lots inspired by Brazilian Modern architecture.
