1Possessing stuff is fun — and sometimes helpful.
Not only can your ghost Sim possess an item just for giggles and scares, but some items can be Possessed to Break, rattling around all the parts inside to make the whole thing crash and burn. It’s just a prank, bro! Don’t worry about having any humans fix it, if that’s not their thing; ghosts can build their handiness skill and Ghostly Repair any broken item to bring it back, good as new. Your ghostly Sims can also build relationships with others by having new interactions like Scare and Pass Through, which can either delight or anger the receiving Sim. Often, however, these are well-received by Sims who are already friendly with their resident ghost.
2Your appearance tells a story.
Depending on how your Sim died, their appearance allows insight into how they died as well as some extra behaviors they may exhibit while floating around the household. Sims who die in saunas (from the Spa Day Game Pack) look quite steamy and often appear to cool themselves off. They also absorb any nearby puddles that linger. Random fires can be started by Sims who died a fiery death. Emotional deaths can affect the people around them: Sims who died from laughter sometimes grant a Playful moodlet to alive Sims they’re nearby.
3You can get away with quite a bit.
Want to WooHoo that one Sim you’ve had your eye on for a while without the consequences of having a child? Well, flirt away and get romantic. It’s totally possible as a ghost, since there are no such thing as ghost babies. Locked doors? Not a problem. Your Sim will pass through walls without issue — except the embarrassment that may come with walking in on your widow using the bathroom. Feel free to go as rogue as you’d like being a ghost — there’s no real consequences when you’re already dead, right?
4You can have an “afterlife crisis.”
“‘Til death do us part” remains true in The Sims 4. If your Sim dies, they are suddenly disconnected from their significant other, releasing them from their clutches and allowing you to freely romance anyone in town. If your Sim is brought back to life, they can start anew with their soulmate and reviving their marriage or trade in the old model for a new one. This can be helpful for those Sims who realize their soulmate was really just digging for gold and squeezing out those riches. Since ghost Sims are immortal, you can play them as long as you’d like.
5Being revived is time-consuming, but worth it.
After all is said and done, you can still revive your Sim a few ways if you’re willing to put in the work. There’s always the easy way out — having your Sim wish for life at the Whispering Wishing Well, available in the Romantic Garden Stuff Pack. However, if you’d prefer to have your Sim work for it, you can take your best outdoorsy Sim and revive them with Ambrosia, a delicious dish to die for (too soon?). All you need is an Angelfish, a Potion of Youth, and a Death Flower. If you’re more of a prepared type, a Sim with a high writing skill can write a “Book of Life” about another Sim while they’re still alive. Then the ghost just needs to read it. The effort it takes to revive a Sim is definitely worth a try at least once.
