The recent announcement of The Sims 4 Vintage Glamour Stuff Pack has opened up the lines of communication once more with a Twitter Q&A from SimGuruGraham and the Stuff Pack Team.
.@Rudy8292 Vintage Glamour has live-in butlers, so they'll tend to your household's needs at all times.
— Graham Nardone (@SimGuruGraham) November 29, 2016
.@AhmedKallala Butlers are random – male/female, adult/elder. You can always fire them and hire a new one if they aren't meeting your needs.
— Graham Nardone (@SimGuruGraham) November 29, 2016
.@AhmedKallala The vanity is perfect for changing your makeup temporarily for a special occasion. You don't have to go back into CAS.
— Graham Nardone (@SimGuruGraham) November 29, 2016
.@IamNea @Rudy8292 Butlers certainly appreciate it if you assign them a bed. Much more comfortable than napping on the sofa.
— Graham Nardone (@SimGuruGraham) November 29, 2016
.@IamNea @Rudy8292 There's also special door lock settings for butlers should you choose to give them private accommodations in your home.
— Graham Nardone (@SimGuruGraham) November 29, 2016
.@LurdesBETTERB Vintage Glamour is actually styled around golden era Hollywood with a few modern touches. Think '30s through '50s.
— Graham Nardone (@SimGuruGraham) November 29, 2016
Nope, that was fake.
— Graham Nardone (@SimGuruGraham) November 29, 2016
.@KrissieY1997 Butlers are really efficient when left on their own to tend to the home, but you can interrupt them with specific orders.
— Graham Nardone (@SimGuruGraham) November 29, 2016
Butlers will act as gardeners, they aren't mixologists but you can ask them to make you a drink, and they aren't masseuses.
— Graham Nardone (@SimGuruGraham) November 29, 2016
.@PattonKieran Naturally. Kids can order their butler around, as well as playing with the Vanity Table and the Globe Bar in Vintage Glamour.
— Graham Nardone (@SimGuruGraham) November 29, 2016
Praise your Butler and they'll work faster for the day. Criticize them and they may sabotage an object in your home to break.
— Graham Nardone (@SimGuruGraham) November 29, 2016
Being mean to your butler to the point of a terrible relationship? They'll outright quit – they have their dignity after all.
— Graham Nardone (@SimGuruGraham) November 29, 2016
A fun aspect of Butlers is discovering what traits they have. I once got one who was Mean, Hates Children, & a Kleptomaniac. Promptly fired.
— Graham Nardone (@SimGuruGraham) November 29, 2016
.@Weealbet The Windenburg Butlering Academy guarantees they come highly trained in every skill necessary to carry out their job effectively.
— Graham Nardone (@SimGuruGraham) November 29, 2016
@Vane_Sims Butlers live in your household – be sure to assign them a bed upon arrival; they'll appreciate it.
— Graham Nardone (@SimGuruGraham) November 29, 2016
They carry out some, but not all of the Nanny's services. I don't believe they'll assist with homework.
— Graham Nardone (@SimGuruGraham) November 29, 2016
.@AhmedKallala Butlers can be set to answer the door and invite visitors in, they can dismiss all visitors, or they can ignore visitors.
— Graham Nardone (@SimGuruGraham) November 29, 2016
.@Stepherrr425 Nope, butlers won't count against a spot in your household.
— Graham Nardone (@SimGuruGraham) November 29, 2016
The butler you're assigned is random, but you can always fire them and hire a different one if you'd like.
— Graham Nardone (@SimGuruGraham) November 29, 2016
Spot on. Certain outfit changes will remove vanity makeup, so it'll go away after doing things like showering or sleeping.
— Graham Nardone (@SimGuruGraham) November 29, 2016
But, you could apply makeup using the vanity and then switch from say… Everyday to Formal clothes, and the makeup will remain.
— Graham Nardone (@SimGuruGraham) November 29, 2016
They sure can. Good reason to get to know your Butler… You may want to fire them and then hire a different one.
— Graham Nardone (@SimGuruGraham) November 29, 2016
Yup, you could do that.
— Graham Nardone (@SimGuruGraham) November 29, 2016
There's no interaction to just remove vanity makeup – it's always via outfit change. Should be easy to mod honestly.
— Graham Nardone (@SimGuruGraham) November 29, 2016
That's what I'm saying – there's no interaction to just remove it, it happens via various outfit changes.
— Graham Nardone (@SimGuruGraham) November 29, 2016
.@LuckyLunayre @AhmedKallala They sure can – no gender restrictions for using the vanity table.
— Graham Nardone (@SimGuruGraham) November 29, 2016
Kids use the vanity to play with makeup, to varying degrees of success. They aren't carefully selecting makeup like adults.
— Graham Nardone (@SimGuruGraham) November 29, 2016
.@SimsExperiencia If your Butler dies the Windenburg Butlering Academy will send a replacement. They're known for their prompt service.
— Graham Nardone (@SimGuruGraham) November 29, 2016
You use the vanity to wear different makeup temporarily – say for a special occasion. Enter CAS to make permanent changes.
— Graham Nardone (@SimGuruGraham) November 29, 2016
Yes, once the makeup from the vanity is removed, your Sim returns to whatever they were wearing beforehand.
— Graham Nardone (@SimGuruGraham) November 29, 2016
.@catloverplayer No new radio station in Vintage Glamour, but has anyone mentioned the new "TV Classics" TV channel? …oh, I just did!
— Graham Nardone (@SimGuruGraham) November 29, 2016
Yes indeed, all part of the lore.
— Graham Nardone (@SimGuruGraham) November 29, 2016
They live with your household full time, and certainly appreciate if you assign them their own bed.
— Graham Nardone (@SimGuruGraham) November 29, 2016
.@Triskyyy No new messes, the Butler is there to make your life simpler (…at a price) and free up more time for your Sims.
— Graham Nardone (@SimGuruGraham) November 30, 2016
No new makeup; our CAS selections for the pack were made before we knew what the new game play would be. New accessories though!
— Graham Nardone (@SimGuruGraham) November 30, 2016
Butlers don't count against the 8 Sim household limit. You don't directly control them; they're an NPC that lives with you.
— Graham Nardone (@SimGuruGraham) November 30, 2016
You won't see another household's butler when visiting; butlers only appear while playing a household that has one.
— Graham Nardone (@SimGuruGraham) November 30, 2016
To be clear, multiple households can all hire their own butler. When you switch between families they'll still have a butler.
— Graham Nardone (@SimGuruGraham) November 30, 2016
I don't recall exactly. I think they're around $2000 a week. They're definitely for well-to-do families.
— Graham Nardone (@SimGuruGraham) November 30, 2016
Butlers serve the same general purpose, but they aren't simply a mirror of how they behaved/interacted in Sims 3.
— Graham Nardone (@SimGuruGraham) November 30, 2016
Vintage Glamour doesn't make any changes to Nanny behavior.
— Graham Nardone (@SimGuruGraham) November 30, 2016
.@Nate3300Simmer Sims ring the bell when they use interactions to ask their butler to do something specific; it isn't a separate object.
— Graham Nardone (@SimGuruGraham) November 30, 2016
.@Nate3300Simmer The bell is a matter of convenience – your Sims don't have to walk to the butler, or wait for the butler to come to them.
— Graham Nardone (@SimGuruGraham) November 30, 2016
.@Nate3300Simmer Of course, there's nothing more snobbish than ringing the bell when your butler is standing right next to you…
— Graham Nardone (@SimGuruGraham) November 30, 2016
That doesn't sound right. The Butler will tend to crying babies – we may have improved Nanny behavior unbeknownst to myself.
— Graham Nardone (@SimGuruGraham) November 30, 2016
No emotional or trait interactions specific to the butler, although normal social interactions will be available with them.
— Graham Nardone (@SimGuruGraham) November 30, 2016
Yep – butlers are known to make a drink for themselves on occasion.
— Graham Nardone (@SimGuruGraham) November 30, 2016
@vellichorsims Butlers are part of Vintage Glamour Stuff, which releases Dec. 6th and also includes the new Vanity Table and Globe Bar.
— Graham Nardone (@SimGuruGraham) November 30, 2016
You could use the cas.fulleditmode cheat to change your Butler's appearance, but their working uniform is a constant.
— Graham Nardone (@SimGuruGraham) November 30, 2016
When ordered to do something, Butlers will immediately cancel their current behavior to respond if they can.
— Graham Nardone (@SimGuruGraham) November 30, 2016
Its at least been discussed before, the large scale of certain objects isn't lost on us.
— Graham Nardone (@SimGuruGraham) November 30, 2016
Right. For the curious… the vanity is applying a hidden moodlet that dictates certain CAS part overrides.
— Graham Nardone (@SimGuruGraham) November 30, 2016
The simplest implementation would just be an interaction that removes that hidden moodlet from the Sim.
— Graham Nardone (@SimGuruGraham) November 30, 2016
If you're like a super germophobe, sure… it won't force you to cancel other service NPCs when a Butler is hired.
— Graham Nardone (@SimGuruGraham) November 30, 2016
You're in luck on one count, there's a black coffee table in Vintage Glamour Stuff.
— Graham Nardone (@SimGuruGraham) November 30, 2016
Tune into the livestream for #TS4VintageGlamour this Friday, I'll be sure to plop it down.
— Graham Nardone (@SimGuruGraham) November 30, 2016
Noon (Pacific time).
— Graham Nardone (@SimGuruGraham) November 30, 2016
Wow, that’s a lot of information about the butler! The new NPC will be debuting with the Globe Bar and Vanity Table gameplay objects in the Vintage Glamour Stuff releasing next Tuesday, December 6. We’ll keep this post updated with more information as it becomes available and, as usual, we’ll have a rundown of Friday’s livestream.
What part of the new stuff pack are you looking forward to the most?
