With today’s announcement from SimGuruKate, it’s clear that Maxis is shaking things up a bit when it comes to content creation and delivery. One of the more important bits of her statements was that Maxis is “shifting” their approach regarding the types of packs they create going forward. There will also be quarters where PAID content is not released at all.
Since her announcement, she has answered questions on Twitter from players who are a bit concerned with the changes. Kate also made it clear that they are not able to share any information on the changes due to a number of reasons, including legal restraints.
We aren't stopping communication, we are changing up how we do things. In fact over the last month and half, you may have noticed many of the SimGurus, especially @SimGuruGrant, @SimGuruGraham, and myself have been extremely active here.

The quarterly teasers were super cool! Amanda did absolutely wonderful getting them going. I want to stress that we aren’t getting rid of them because we didn’t like them, but because they simply no longer make sense with how we will be release content moving forward.

I didn't say that the quarterly teasers had to stop to deliver content the community wanted. Rather I am saying we (as in EA/Maxis) are shaking up the way content is delivered and because of this quarterly teasers no longer make sense.

I actually have a meeting next week to talk specifically about the forums and how we can make sure information gets there as well! It's unlikely we will ever be able to have the same types of conversation on Facebook, but you never know!
