New The Sims 4 Patch Will Bring Toggle for Ailments

Ailments, one of the features on the recently released The Sims 4 Enchanted by Nature Expansion Pack, is having yet another change on the upcoming game update.

This is not the first time ailments have received an update. A recent patch reduced the frequency on which they happen in the game. But the new game update will bring a new options in the game settings menu, where players can toggle ailments on and off.

A new blog post explains this in further detail. Read it below.

The next patch, as previously announced on the latest roadmap, will come to The Sims 4 on Tuesday, August 19th, and bring “new skin customization options” to Create a Sim, as well as prepare the game for the two new Creator kits.

Ailment Tuning in The Sims 4 Enchanted By Nature

Sul Sul! This is Nate, lead Designer of the Enchanted by Nature Expansion Pack. I’m here to talk a little bit about Ailments, how we developed them, and the game settings toggle we’re adding to give more agency to choose how Ailments manifest in your game.

Our hope with Ailments was to create interesting situations that ask you to change up how you play. The way they affect a Sim’s life can look and feel different depending on how you meet it: it can be a bump in the road, a chance to flex the Apothecary skill, or perhaps an unexpected benefit! For instance, Greenie Meanie’s symptoms can strain relationships, but also provide a Gardening skill boost. If you’re a Sim who spends more time with plants than other Sims, it’s actually quite helpful!

Living up to this aspiration of challenge and reward for each of the broad array of Ailments was no small task and I’m proud of the team’s hard work. At the same time, we heard your feedback loud and clear that Ailments were happening too often!

We’re going beyond the recent patch, which reduced the chance of contagious Ailments spread across the game, to also add a new settings toggle which disables Ailment spread completely. Find it by going to the Main Menu and selecting Game Options > Pack Settings. Under the section for Enchanted by Nature, you’ll see the settings toggle Enable Ailment Spread. When this is disabled, Ailments can no longer jump from one Sim to another and Sims have no chance of picking up Ailments in their day-to-day life. Sims with current Ailments will still have them, which you can wait out or cure through whichever method you prefer. You can change the toggle back and forth at any time. Check out the FAQ for more details!

We hope that adding this toggle setting will help you find new and more satisfying ways to incorporate Enchanted by Nature in your play and storytelling. Now if you’ll excuse me, my Sims have a date to press some flowers then take a nap in the forest. Dag Dag!

F.A.Q.

What will I see with this new Ailments Spread toggle?

The Ailment Spread toggle is enabled by default. If you do nothing, Ailments will continue working the same way (including the reduced chance of spreading added by the recent patch.)

What will happen in my save if I choose to disable Ailments Spread?

Sims won’t get Ailments from any contagious source. This means no chance of Ailments from day-to-day activity like going to work or high school, or from Foraging. It also means no chance of picking up an Ailment from being around a Sim who has one.

Ailments that are present in your save when you disable the toggle will still be there. Sims will still need to wait it out or seek a cure, but no new Ailments will occur due to spread.

If I disable the toggle, what happens to other features in this Expansion Pack that use Ailments?

Everything still works the same, just that Ailments are no longer contagious! Here are the details:

  • Fairy Sims’ Cure or Apply Ailment Ability is unchanged. You can still direct Fairies to give Ailments to other Sims. While controlling a Sim with an Ailment, you can still try asking a friendly Fairy to cure you.
  • For the Naturopath Career, clients coming to your Sim’s home will still have Ailments that need treatment.
  • You can still craft Ailment cures at the Apothecary Table to sell, treat Naturopath clients, etc.
  • Sims who become Very Imbalanced will still develop an Ailment, but it can’t spread to anyone else. (If you’d prefer not to play with Ailments this way, you can disable the Enable Balance & Imbalance toggle on this same settings panel!)

So if I disable both Ailments Spread and Balance & Imbalance, will I see any Ailments in my game?

The only Ailments you’ll see are:

  • Ailments that Sims already had at the moment you disable the toggle.
  • Ailments you direct your Sims to put on others, via Fairies’ Cure or Apply Ailment Ability or PlantSim’s Poison Kiss interaction.
  • Ailments on Sims that visit when you opt for your Naturopath to receive clients at home.

“Perfect Stranger”: The Sims Releases Music Video with FKA twigs

British artist FKA twigs has a new music video out made with The Sims 4. The song is the Simlish version of “Perfect Stranger”, from her latest record (“Eusexua”) and part of The Sims 4 Enchanted by Nature.

The video was created by Solita Sims and follows what seems to be the artist’s simself – or her fairy version – on a journey through Innisgreen. It’s available on YouTube, watch it below.

A small behind the scenes video was also shared on Instagram, in which FKA twigs talks about recording the song in Simlish.

It is also interesting to notice that Enchanted by Nature was first teased during an official livestream with another big name in the music industry: Megan Thee Stallion. Maybe this is a coincidence, or maybe that’s how EA will advertise The Sims 4 from now on.

Meet the Sims of Innisgreen from Enchanted by Nature

As Sims arrive and settle into the lush and charming world of Innisgreen, they’ll encounter many interesting beings along the way. From fairies buzzing about to ramblers offering necessary tidbits, this coastal land grows in abundance from an enchanted legacy with a dark past.

So let’s dig deep down into its roots and meet some of the Sims that make Innisgreen the perfect place to embrace your natural side.

The Great, Green Love of Innisgreen

Creator of all that is wonderful and awesome in the natural world (including her beloved fairies!), Mother Nature watches over Innisgreen and all that call it home. Although a gentle guardian that provides guidance and inspiration to any Sim that seeks it, her powers are as mighty as they come.

A dark time ago, she found herself in a great conflict known as The Gnome Wars, with a result that has shaped Innisgreen forever. Like many wars before, it sparked from love, between Mother Nature and Spruce Almighty.

Spruce was a gift to Mother Nature from nature itself, sprouting in her very own garden. Their love for Mother Nature lives deep in their roots and spreads to each needle, and like Mother Nature, they’ve dedicated their life to protecting the wonders of the natural world. Spruce, however, is not all-powerful like their eventual wife, but powerful nonetheless–they created the Gnomes, afterall. Devoted to their creator, the Gnomes have a special, but troubling bond with Spruce.

The Gnome Wars began when non-magical Sims of Innisgreen began developing technology that separated them from this land of natural wonder. This way of living enraged Spruce, leading to their loyal Gnomes attacking these Sims, in Spruce’s honor, and attempting to drive them out. The Fairies of the land stepped in to defend the non-magical community, eventually leading to Mother Nature herself getting involved and putting an end to the aggression. Spruce agreed to not engage in any further conflict, while the Gnomes were rendered inanimate as their punishment, except when Fairy magic temporarily permits them to animate once again.

The relationship between Mother Nature and Spruce Almighty is complicated, lingering in the very soil of Innisgreen today. Although divorced, Spruce still pines for Mother Nature’s warm embrace, never losing hope to one day rekindle their lost love.

Gnomes on the other hand can be quite simple, just ask resident “Gnome Enthusiast” Glen Nhoam. He’ll gladly sell you a gnome, or tell you how they can help your garden grow, or ask you to awaken the Great Gnome in Town Square. He really does Gnome-it-all.

Your Favorite Sprucederry Grove Couple

Meet Elric DeMuray and Todd Attenberry. Elric lives a simple, yet complicated life. Born a fairy, he hasn’t always embraced his magical nature. In fact, he often wonders about a life without his whimsical gifts and need for emotional fuel. Luckily he has Todd to keep him balanced.

Todd, who you may remember as “Apothecary Todd” from The Sims: Makin’ Magic, is the owner of his own Apothecary Stall–of course–and purveyor of many goods. He spends his days at the market doling out cures and elixirs, trading various ingredients, and even sending an occasional Sim out on a quest or two.

Despite Elric’s “winged affliction,” the two share a deep love for the natural world. They can often be found mucking about in their harvestables or taking a snooze in the lush grass. Todd–the more diligent of the two–always finds the perfect ingredients for his apothecary crafting. No matter what you need, Todd is often the Sim to see.

Drama Brews In Everdew

Welcome to a house of refuge with a dusting of rogue behavior from its new guest! This charming girl’s girl home is brimming with excitement ever since Nadya Kishka, a fairy friend, let “runaway” daughter Iris Lapido, crash with her. Why, you ask? Well, what started off as two besties under one roof, may be morphing into a flirtatious relationship. This home flutters with drama and magic, making it a lot of fun for these two rebellious ladies!

Stifled by her parent’s (Flora and Ayo Lapido) tech-heavy home, Iris moved into the enchanted forest of Everdew to explore a life in nature. She keeps her past a secret, with the hope that magic can one day write the future of her dreams.

Enter Nadya. Known for being devious with a sprinkle of good, she is a fashionably fuchsia fairy and supportive best friend to Iris. Between her ex Joe Trader and the Fairy Council Liaison, Nadya is just happy to be in the company of someone as fun as her.

Speaking of, say Sul Sul to Nadya’s former lover, Joe Trader, the Grove’s local tradesman. Joe pals around town offering quests and presenting trades, with goods he may or may not have stolen. Forming a bond with Joe may come with its problems, or even Ailments, but the reward may be sweeter than expected. Find out for yourself!

A Fairy Family With Fairy Problems

The Summerdreams–a fairy family–are currently tending to a bit of a rough patch in the garden of life. Titania, wife and mother, wants to be a free-spirit untethered to this realm of domesticity, while husband Oberon has high hopes for his family and their space in the community. No matter how steamy their love is, it seems that their marriage is in need of some serious watering.

Despite their troubles, they both deeply love their daughter, Mara. Titania enjoys teaching her how to forage in the woods, and Oberon allows her to venture wherever she pleases, instilling his love of nature within her.

Mara loves her family, home and all of the magic that swirls around her. She is counting down the days until she earns her wings. She’s adventurous, curious and full of aspirations; she often dreams about becoming the Queen of all fairies one day, should fairy society ever adopt a matriarchy.

Some Others You May Run or Fly Into

Care Ren, a liaison for the Fairy Council and member of the welcoming committee to Innisgreen, may be one of the first you encounter. She may look intimidating, with her blonde and sharp suits, but stay on her good sides and you’ll reap the rewards. You can start by offering her a grilled cheese.

It’ll be your pleasure to meet Zhaleh Amani, a wise elder fairy respected by all in the community. She can be found buzzing about in the forest looking for Sims to send out on quests.

Become One With the Natural World in The Sims 4 Enchanted by Nature

Can you hear that? It sounds like the soft whisper of Mother Nature calling you to a charming new world. Oh, nevermind, that’s actually just nature calling from a privy bush.

Anyways, The Sims 4 Enchanted by Nature Expansion Pack welcomes you all to Innisgreen, a beautifully lush and wonderful land where Sims and nature live in perfect (or chaotic) harmony.

If you’re ready to answer nature’s call, let’s dig deeper into the whimsical soil of Innisgreen.

  • A Sprinkle of Fairy Dust, Please
  • Innigreen, an Emphasis On Green
  • It’s All About Balance & Recovery
  • Let Nature Living Come Naturally
  • You Make The Sims; Community Builds featured in Enchanted by Nature from CrackedKyber, The Sim Scroll

A Sprinkle of Fairy Dust, Please

Mother Nature has a fairy interesting proposition, should you choose to accept it. With her guidance, Sims can become the Fairy they were destined to be, and once they complete their transformation, they’ll have the choice to flutter down two fairy different paths. There’s the Harmonious Fairy, a benevolent winged helper who wants to aide other living things find health and balance; and the Discordant Fairy, a flying mischief-maker that enjoys stirring up a little chaos and making everyday life harder for the Sims around them. The Fairy Path is yours to fly — with wings to match.

Fairies can develop abilities that let them nurture plants, manipulate objects, change the moods of others, and more. But be wary of Emotional Starvation. Rather than living off food, Fairies absorb emotions to survive, either directly from other Sims or from bottled Emotion Potions. Failure to do so may welcome their untimely demise.

You’ll be able to customize your Fairy look to your own Fairy liking with an extensive array of wings, skin tones, ears, teeth, head accessories, glowing tattoos and more. Fairies can even use their Fairy charm to deliver a special WooHoo!

Don’t worry non-Fairy Sims, you can also have some magical fun with Fairy Dust, using it to enchant plants, bring Gnomes to life, and more.

So, whether your Fairy Sim chooses to sow wonder or spark chaos, or you’re a Sim with fairy interesting neighbors, it’s just the beginning of your fairytale.

Emphasis On Green

Three neighborhoods make up Innisgreen, each one connecting you to nature in their own unique way. There’s the Coast of Adhmor, a peaceful seaside village where everyday Sims enjoy life’s simple pleasures. Stepping out of town brings us to Sprucederry Grove, a vibrant blend of friendly shops, cozy homes and draping ivy that blur the line between civilization and the natural world. And finally, we venture deep into the magical forest of Everdew, a thick and mysterious woodland humming with enchanting energy.

Innisgreen is full of new adventures, skills and traits, too. You can balance moods and discover natural remedies with your Apothecary Table; seek out Mother Nature and embark on a transformative journey to becoming a Fairy; be your best plant parent and fill your home with a new array of houseplants; or unlock your inner Nature Nomad to dwell among the trees and live off the land.

It’s All About Balance

Living in tune with nature is more than playing in dirt and hugging trees; it means respecting the natural world, and promoting a balanced coexistence. Living in Innisgreen, Sims must become emotionally grounded and find that balance, or welcome the chaos.

When Sims start to lose their balance and become imbalanced, life can get a little harder to navigate. For example, one may acquire new skills at a slower rate or their everyday needs may become harder to solve; and if a Sim enters the very imbalanced territory, that’s when Ailments start to show up, like the Greenie Meanie. With this Ailment, Sims will learn and complete Gardening tasks faster than normal-yay! But, they’re constantly angry and prone to outbursts that are off-putting to other nearby Sims–eek! And that’s just one of many; there’s Emotional Void, Simoleon Fever, and Sonic Sinuses, to name a few.

But imbalance isn’t the end; it’s simply the beginning of a new journey.

Ailments can vanish and moods can improve with cures and elixirs crafted from the new Apothecary Table. With special ingredients like the Lightning Root and Aura Blossom found while gardening and foraging, Sims can follow intricate recipes for treatments with fantastical effects. And with the right amount of practice, one can take on the Elixir Enthusiast Aspiration or become a Naturopath, a new profession that serves to cure fellow Sims of their curious Ailments.

Achieving balance, however, may require a little luck. Sims living in Innisgreen may experience good, ordinary or bad luck, which in turn may affect their career, love life, cooking, foraging and other interactions or tasks. Luckily for you, there are two luck charms that can be found, purchased or made (at the Apothecary Table), which will modify your Sim’s luck, for good or bad.

Now you have to ask yourself, will your Sim seek balance, or will they embrace the chaos of an unbalanced life in nature?

Let Natural Living Come Naturally

Step outside and make yourself at home. Whether you’re honing your Natural Living Skill or seeking the Nature Nomad Aspiration, Innisgreen gives Sims the chance to eat, bathe, sleep, and thrive entirely off the land. Forget modern comforts, this is about embracing a simpler life in rhythm–and balance–with the world around you. From eating freshly caught fish and sleeping in the grass, to foraging for apothecary ingredients and summoning a Privy Bush when nature calls, every new discovery and experience brings your Sim closer to self-reliance.

For those not quite ready to give up hot showers and cozy beds, you can try the plant parent life instead and welcome a collection of new living houseplants inside your humble abode. They’re not just decoration, like they’ve been in the past; they’ll need water, care, and constant companionship. You’ll even be able to place them on shelves, tables and floors to transform your home into a tranquil garden sanctuary.

Now, do you aspire to be an Elixir Enthusiast, a Nature Nomad, or…

Imagining Innisgreen: Community Builds Featured in Enchanted by Nature

To capture the enchanting atmosphere of Innisgreen, we partnered with creators TheCrackedKyberThe Sim ScrollsNinahschmidt and Sandra Pyka to build an array of captivating and unique lots.

The neighborhoods of Innisgreen not only draw on nature and fantasy elements, but they also take some inspiration from the architecture and aesthetics of Ireland and Celtic artistry.

CrackedKyber, otherwise known as Megan, built community lots Whistling Thistle Gardens and the Starsong Lounge, as well as 8 Gnome Coast Street.

Catching up with Sims at the Whistling Thistle Gardens is a favorite pastime of the Sprucederry Grove residents. This community garden has been carefully curated over the years to grow all of the residents’ favorite harvests. Besides socializing and gardening, painting and photography are especially enjoyable here as the light and natural ambience ignite creativity.

“I wanted the park to be functional for a range of life stages, so I added items to make sure the whole family can spend the day there together,” said Megan. “The park is a really good representation of my building style and feels the most me.”

The Sim Scrolls designed two residential lots: Gimmley Gardensbrook and Puckitt Hall, and created The GNOM Exhibit.

Gimmley Gardensbrook is a garden oasis filled with luscious greenery, placing residents on a hill they’ll want to die on. Plentiful plots, gracious greens, and quaint carvings all give this storybook home two green thumbs up!

“I think all the levels make it feel more organic and untamed,” said The Sim Scrolls. “I wanted it to feel wild like it was merging with nature, so having the home partially built into a hill just felt right. But I also wanted to emulate the vibes of an English Cottage Garden.”

Ninahschmidt, or Nina, designed three residential lots: Crannamor ResidentialGreenwood Hamlet Residence and Bard Boulevard.

Along the outskirts of Everdew lies Grannamor Residential, a quaint home, built into one of the largest trees in the forest. The breathtaking scenery is made more beautiful by the neighborhood’s denizens, who can be seen out and about, using their enchantments on the world and Sims alike.

“It was very important for me to build something unique with a very unconventional shape that would do justice to the beautiful place where it’s located,” said Nina. “I spent a long time with this build, playing with different shapes and styles until I was happy with it.”

Nina’s advice for aspiring builders: “Adding some colorful lighting makes a big difference. And now we can place plants on roofs, which adds a lot of whimsy to a build!”

Sandra Pyka built a total of three lots for the Expansion Pack: Gringle’s1 Mari Shores Road and 42 Normfair Drive.

Gringle’s has been the local hot spot for Sims to enjoy a few drinks after a long day of mixing Elixirs. Located near the center of Sprucederry Grove, Sims come to take in the greenery and partake in delectable conversation.

“It’s a community space, somewhere your Sims can meet as a family, or come on a date, or venture out alone to use the chess table as an activity,” said Sandra, who hails from Ireland. “The overgrown feel of the bar is inspired by the way nature flourishes here in Ireland. To be able to bring some real-life research to this pack felt surreal, I felt very honored, and as a result, it inspired me to do the best I can for my builds!”
