With the release of the new Origin, Origin has made it clear that they’ve dropped support for older operating systems going forward. If you are still running on Windows Vista or older, you will still be able to play your games, but you will not have access to new features.
What does this mean? It means that you can still use an older version of Origin to download and play your current games, redeem codes, and make in-game purchases, but you will have to use the online Origin Store to make purchases and change your account settings.
If you’re running Windows Vista or older, you can play your games by using an older version of Origin, but you’ll need to upgrade your OS to enjoy all Origin has to offer. What operating systems are supported?
If you are using Windows 7, Windows 8.1 or Windows 10, you can  enjoy all of Origin’s features.
If you’re on an earlier version of Windows, we recommend upgrading your OS so you can enjoy the full Origin experience.
If you cannot update your OS, you can download and use an older version of Origin.
If you need help upgrading your system, follow these steps straight from Microsoft:
Windows XP
Windows Vista
Once you’re running Windows 7 or 8.1, follow these steps from Microsoft to upgrade to Windows 10.
What do I lose?
If you cannot upgrade your PC you’ll still be able to use an older version of Origin to download and play your current games, redeem codes, and make in-game purchases. You can visit the Origin Store and change your account settings online.
- Origin Access members can also still visit The Vault online, rather than through the Origin client.
However, the Origin client’s Store tab, achievement viewing, account settings, and Origin social features — like your friends list, chat, video chat, and your profile — are restricted or unavailable on earlier versions of Windows.
Keep chatting with friends, viewing achievements, and shopping in Origin by upgrading your PCÂ to Windows 7 or later.
What you’ll still be able to do:
- Play your current games
- Redeem codes
- Download games
- Make in-game purchases
- Visit the Origin Store online
- Change your account settings online
- Visit and add games from The Vault online (Origin Access members)
What you will not be able to do anymore:
- Use the Store tab to browse and buy new games (and access The Vault, for Origin Access members)
- View achievements
- Change your account settings in the Origin client
- Use your friends list and related features
- Chat and video chat
- View and edit your profile
