Sims deserve some rest, relaxation, and adventure this holiday season. And there’s no better way to give them that chance than with The Sims™ 4 Outdoor Retreat* and The Sims 4 Jungle Adventure. Both are releasing December 4, 2018 on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One! Yes, it’s time for some outdoor vacation fun. And the best part is, you won’t get any mosquito bites. Your Sims, on the other hand, might end up with a mysterious disease. But, we digress. Here are five essential tidbits you should know about each pack.
Outdoor Retreat
This pack boasts a new destination filled with fresh gameplay possibilities, objects, activities, and a unique skill.
1. Destination Unknown
Your Sims can now make an escape from their everyday lives into the pine-filled air of Granite Falls, venturing deep into the woods to discover outdoor surprises, including dangerous and wondrous herbs and an interesting species of insects. Let’s just hope that your Sims aren’t squeamish about creepy crawlers.
2. Set Up Camp
Armed with the proper supplies, your Sims can create the coziest camping site. Sims can purchase a tent and outfit themselves in hiking gear. And, for the less adventurous, Sims can still camp out in the comfort of their backyard.
3. Take a Hike (and Other Stuff)
Join a game of horseshoes and go on a hike in the national park, or try to find the hermit rumored to live in the deepest parts of the forest. Then, gather ‘round the campfire, enjoy roasted marshmallows, and tell ghost stories. Or, relax on a blanket for a night of stargazing, letting your Sim’s imagination run wild!
4. Calling All Herbalists
Build your Sim’s herbalism skill to create a variety of useful remedies, from insect repellent to a soothing concoction that can aid a tense Sim. This skill can also help Sims identify which plants are edible and which are poisonous. That’s a good Sim to have around.
5. Fuzzy Wuzzy Was a Sim
Get your silliest Sim in the mood for nature with the fierce and fuzzy bear costume! See what happens when your Sim wanders around the campsite in this getup, especially at night. Back at home, Sims can throw it on to keep cozy or, you know, just generally freak out other Sims.
Jungle Adventure
If it’s an exotic vacation you seek, then this pack has your Sims covered, possibly in bug bites. With it, they’ll explore Selvadorada in all its lush, colorful, and treasure-seeking glory.
1. Locals Only
When they travel to Selvadorada, your Sims can meet resident friends at the cantina and prepare for all things wild. To learn the culture, have Sims try traditional foods, dance to new music, practice native customs, and shop for authentic décor. Plus, colorful fashions will have your Sims feeling ready to take on whatever the jungle throws at them.
2. Prepare or Beware
Exploring the jungle is one of the most exciting parts of this pack, but we recommend your Sims gear up first. Hiking attire will get your Sims in the spirit of adventure and preparing for danger with items from the marketplace will help your Sims explore.
3. Shhhh, Secrets
There are areas of the jungle that are locked off with magic on every trip, so keep your eyes open for hidden paths and locked gates. These change from trip to trip, which means if you want to truly see everything, you’ll need to venture out multiple times.
4. Tales from the Temple
This is gonna be big. Big and mysterious. Mysterious and creepy. All the things! When Sims stumble upon the unique temple, there’s no telling what they’ll find. Different rooms can unlock delight (or terror!), priceless relics, and even treasures. Plus, each time your Sims visit the temple, they’ll experience new challenges and uncover different treasures or traps. Like we said, make sure you prepare before embarking on this trip.
5. Great Excavations
Sims can excavate and examine hidden items, which could turn out to be precious objects. Score. Check them out at the archaeology table to decide if they’re worth their salt, butsalt but watch out for ones that are fake. You wouldn’t want to display something fake on your Sim’s mantle, now would you?

Like a VIP: Who Said Sims Can’t Go to College in The Sims 4?
There are very many ways one can play The Sims, but I feel like we could separate players into two distinct groups: Those who play the game as it is, and those who use what we’re given as tools to come up with their own ways to play. And though I tend to be the former, sometimes I want to use my creativity and do something I have never done before, or maybe even use my imagination to do something I didn’t know was possible.
I have been meaning to share one of my experiences with you guys for a while, but this past weekend playing The Sims 4 Jungle Adventure gave me a brand new idea: What if we repurposed both vacation worlds we currently have as places our sims could move away to for college?
I’ll say it again to be clear: This requires a combination of imagination with creative use of the tools we have in game – specifically going on vacations and staying on rental homes, the club system, lot traits and the very many skills The Sims 4 has, specially if you have the whole collection. Do you guys see where I’m going with this?

Here’s what I did: First of all, I built two schools (with library as both their lot types), the Selvadorada Social Studies Academy and the Granite Falls Science Institute. The first one had arts, music, and archaeology as the main skills, while the second one focuses on Logic, Veterinary, Gardening and Rocket Science. Both had their specific lot traits but shared the new Peace & Quiet trait, for faster skill gaining while reading, as well as communal areas, rooms arranged as classrooms and all the requirements for the Library lot.
Then I sent different sets of sims to each one. Please understand I wasn’t really playing for real this time, but rather just testing how this could play out. So I sent these different sets of sims, created new “Study Groups” for them (with the help of the

It was cool to see my sims having enough time to work on their skills, and also being able to socialize and have fun in between activities. I kept changing the club activities so they’d all read together, then sit at the computer and work on an assignment (by either writing or coding), then also having some time to eat and socialize.
One thing I found we can do is move a few teenagers into a new household, placing them on a cheap empty lot and then making them all go on a vacation together, meaning taking them to college in this scenario. It reminded me of The Sims 2: University Life and how we could take our sims’ friends with them to school.

The only real downside I experienced while playing was computer performance. The lots were too big and there were too many in the loaded area because of my club. I recommend maybe building smaller “schools” (I chose the biggest lots of each world). But other than that, it was a fun thing to do to spice up my game.
If the whole idea of this improvised college is too much for you, maybe you could use the vacation worlds, specially Selvadorada, as a “year abroad” for sims who recently turned into Young Adults. You know, some time for them to go experience life somewhere new before they’re back to a new reality of having jobs and paying bills.
Now if you’re into even more of this idea, one thing I thought of but never got around to trying was making a household with an adult an various kids from the neighborhood to build a mini tiny bitty boarding school. Or even do the same thing but for camps, like an Arts Camp or even Chess Camp.

Other than introducing you to a new idea, the main idea with this article is to encourage you to try and find new ways to use The Sims 4 to your own liking. Feel free to comment with even more ideas to use the vacation worlds as college in the game. If you guys would like it, I’ll share more experiences I have had using my imagination and the game tools to create something unusual. Happy simming!

The Sims 4 Conspiracy Theories: Who is the Hermit?
With the Outdoor Retreat game pack installed, your Sims may find themselves stumbling upon a hidden opening in the woods, which may or may not have some risks in doing so. But if they are lucky enough, they may be led to a secret location to find the one and only Hermit!
But who is this so-called Hermit? Well, depending on who you end up finding, it is an elderly man or woman who lives in a cabin that is adorned with various harvestable vegetables, fruits, and flowers. And if you build up your relationship high enough with the Hermit, he or she might just tell you a secret recipe!
Basically, the Hermit is just this Sim that lives in the woods that can help you with gardening and cooking… but who is (s)he
So, without further ado, here are a few theories about who this Hermit really is!
Theory #1: The Hermit is an alien.
What’s a good Sims conspiracy theory without the mention of aliens?! Sure, I’ve conspired that the Landgraabs are aliens, too, but from all of the Easter eggs alluding to aliens presented in the game, there have got to be more than just a few aliens in the world… they are all over!
But the Hermit being an alien does make a lot of sense, right? Just like the Landgraabs, the Hermit lives in a secluded place, presumably to keep away from Sims who might blow their cover. Plus, (s)he clearly has functional plumbing and electricity with the evidence of the bathroom and the refrigerator, but being that the Hermit lives so far off the grid from other Sims, it makes me wonder just how this is possible. Could it be because of alien technology?
And what about the excessive amount of rare plants surrounding the cabin? My guess is that it could be a way for the unearthly Hermit to harvest secular plants as some sort of sample to analyze for later. I mean, the aliens in this game are known to probe people, so saying that they would analyze biological data of vegetables and flowers wouldn’t be that wild of a guess.
Theory #2: The Hermit has a green thumb that everybody is after.
I think that the biggest question regarding the Hermit is about why (s)he lives in such a secluded place in the woods. Maybe it’s just because the Hermit likes to live in solitude, but it’s also plausible that it could be because of something bigger.
It’s obvious from the Hermit’s garden that (s)he is an expert gardener, tending to all sorts of fruits and vegetables that are hard to find anywhere else in the world. And the fact that the Hermit can teach your Sim about a secret recipe makes for the assumption that (s)he is a skilled chef, too.
With such skill, the Hermit could have a very successful career in the culinary track or even just success from growing and selling crops. But instead, the Hermit chooses to be secluded from society. Why is that?
Well, maybe the Hermit’s talents weren’t so beneficial after all. Maybe the Hermit once lived included in society, but chose to leave because of how people took advantage of his/her such incredible skills. With such abilities, Sims were sure to have wanted him/her to cook for them and plant things for them. They probably went to great lengths to demand the Hermit to make food and grow harvestables for them to have for themselves, because Sims this talented in skill categories like these aren’t very common.
It’s possible that the Hermit was faced with such great pressure from society, and because of it, moved to the deep woods of Granite Falls to just get away from everything and become more connected to the Earth. Maybe the Hermit was just tired of society trying to exploit him/her, and (s)he just had enough.
Theory #3: The Hermit is… You.
Okay, this one’s deep. My final theory about the Hermit is that (s)he could actually be… you. The player.
Let me explain.
EA has had such dedicated fans since its humble beginnings way back in the days of The Sims 1. And as their loyal fans have gotten older and grown as human beings, some of them stuck with the game, and others, well, moved on.
It is possible that EA designed the Hermit to represent both the die-hard fans of the game as well as the players who no longer stuck to the franchise, using the Hermit’s seclusion from society to symbolize the distance between the former players and the game itself. Being that the Hermit can be either a man or a woman, it is inclusive of all Simmers alike, no matter what gender. And since the Hermit is an elder, it could be to showcase all of the time spent away from the game for those who have moved on from The Sims to do other things in life, aging just like every other Sim, but clearly more wise and experienced out of old age. And for those who have been playing The Sims since the beginning, they are wise of everything that the game has gone through, and all the joy that has been created out of it.
The Hermit’s vast garden might just be symbolic of the blooming that Simmers have went through over the years, becoming such vibrant life in nature that sprouted from the very beginnings of the video game’s history. And years later, the flowers in this forest are all bright and colorful, even though they are all different types. But being just like the diverse world of Simmers, those different types of flowers are together on the Hermit’s property, growing in the common soil that they share, all thriving in their ecosystem.
And even for the Simmers who no longer play the game, or are distancing themselves before returning to playing again (just like how the Hermit is still in the world of The Sims, but away from everyone else in a secret location), The Sims will always be a part of them, no matter how far they may be.
