Here to kick off SimsVIP’s September Community Spotlight is Community YouTuber MsGryphi! In a brief introduction below, Tonya gives readers a chance to learn a bit more about what she does in the community. Take it away Tonya!
Hey guys this is MsGryphi – but please call me Tonya. I am a 23 year old Simmer YouTuber from the States. Before I tell you more about my channel, I wanted to thank SimsVIP for asking me to be the Community Spotlight for September 2017. I’ve been following their site since it was created and am very honored to be featured.
So, I’m a Simmer, obviously. I first played the Sims when I was in middle school. I had gone over a friend’s house after school and we played the Sims 2 Pets on PS2. It was my first introduction into the franchise, and I have been hooked ever since!
In 2012, I finally decided to share my excitement for this series by posting my first ever Sims video on YouTube in hopes of finding others who shared my passion. Embarassingly enough, all of these videos are still live on my channel. So, if you ever are in the mood to watch someone reacting to Patch v. 1.42 which added Swimming in Oceans to the Sims 3, I gotchu covered. I then went on to create Let’s Plays in the Sims 3 for University Life and Island Paradise. They were never highly viewed, but I was having so much fun that the views never mattered to me. This still holds true today and I still love making Let’s Plays.
I originally found the Sims YouTube community many years ago when I used to watch loads of CurtisParadis and Quxxn (RIP, Live Beyond Cloud Nine). They were really my first introduction to Sims Let’s Plays and inspired my desire to share my creations as well.
Currently on my channel, I do daily uploads of Let’s Plays, Speed Builds, Challenges, Create-a-Sims, and even weekly Live-Streams. I make new friends in this community every week and it is just an amazing place to be.
I’m having loads of fun trying to improve my building skills through variety and challenges. I do love me a good building challenge. But, a majority of the time, I just open the game with no vision of what I want to build and have fun with it, and sometimes the results are quite interesting (Good? Bad? You decide!)
I’ve also been delving much farther into story telling this past year on my channel. I go more indepth into characters, back stories, and dialogue in my series. The two I upload weekly at the moment are Parenthood and Vampires. They’re very different series with a diverse cast of Sims and I am having so much fun with them.
This game and community have been such a positive influence in my life. Earlier this year, I was diagnosed with a brain tumor and underwent major surgery. I was scared, but the people I met through YouTube were so caring and helpful. The Sims has always been my “happy place” – and with everything that has happened this year, I couldn’t thank this community enough. I really love you guys.
And a few extra things about me: I’m a graphic designer, a massive Whovian, and a snowman enthusiast (SANANANA!).
Hope to see you guys around. I’d love to meet more amazing simmers. ♥
xx Tonya
