The Sims: Throwback to the Game That Started It All

I recently replaced my old damaged copy of The Sims and was shocked at how many things were different from The Sims 4. I liked some of differences between the games but others.. not so much. Let’s take a look at at some of features in the original game!

1. Burglars!

At what point in our sim lives did we actually decide to start locking our doors so we don’t wake up in the middle of the night with some stranger stealing our big screen? I kind of miss the fear aspect of it. It made the game feel a little more realistic but at the same time it wasn’t very realistic to have your home burglarized 3 or 4 times a week.

2. Fires/Firefighters!

Since we are on the subject of things that are not in TS4, what ever happened to the firefighters? I had a fire the first day I started playing The Sims again and before I could even pull my sims out of panic to get them to put it out, a fireman showed up and put it out. The best part? It didn’t even ruin my stove or counter. I didn’t have to replace either of them. That is right, so no insurance giving us enough money to replace ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!

3. Create-A-Sim

CAS mode, There are a couple things I really liked about TS1 CAS, such as our sims being able to have a zodiac sign and I guess that you really won’t spend more than a couple minutes making your sim. (I’m a very indecisive person so I spend a LOT of time in TS4 CAS) There are so many things that you can’t do in TS1 CAS though. There are almost no options for anything. You can change their hair, select a preset outfit and change their skin color. That is really bothersome to me. You have child or adult. Nothing in between that. We never really realized what we were missing out on back then so it probably wasn’t that big of a deal.

I mean really? How can we live without these little guys now?

4. Pregnancy!

“Well it’s just that uhh.. I’m in the best shape of my life right now and..”

This one is a very big one for me! Pregnancy! Well.. no pregnancy to be exact. This is what happens when one of your sims feels it might be time to take your relationship to the next level.

“No worries, you don’t even need to carry the child!”

I just think it is sad. Pregnancy is honestly an amazing experience in TS4 and we missed out in TS1. I’m just thankful that it was added in TS2!

5. Getting Married

At LEAST you don’t have a popup that says, “Hey how about we do this thing?” They actually do get down on one knee and pop the question with a ring in hand and everything. What happens afterwards is what is disappointing. They literally do it right then and there. They spin into their wedding clothes and kiss. Boom. Done. No planning a beautiful wedding with your friends and family. I suppose it’s pretty much the same thing as eloping in TS4.

So the conclusion to all of this is that TS1 has things that TS4 doesn’t and vice versa. They are both still amazing games and I’d recommend that you break out your Sims 1 game if you haven’t played it in a while because the nostalgia is great!
