UPDATE: This issue has been fixed with the March 20th Game Patch.
The last game patch has brought on a serious bug which affects those who are playing and editing apartments in The Sims 4. According to a post by Crinrict, just switching families in apartments seems to trigger a loss of Chairs and Items on Counter Tops.
❗ Head over to Crinrict’s website for details on the bug and information on avoiding this issue. The QA team has been notified and they will work to correct it.
I've been able to replicate the disappearing furniture issue. Backup yours saves and don't go into build mode in apartments for the moment.

Could be worst then I thought. Switching families in apartments seems to be enough to trigger it. Further testing coming up. If anyone has additional info, feel free to jump in. https://t.co/6ZFUKx0dbb

Backup your houses/apartment rooms to the library or gallery. Bad bug.
Doing further testing.

After a one hour testing, my recommendation: Stay clear of apartments for now and backup your buildings to the library and yours aves.
The issue has been forwarded to QA.
