Ever since The Sims team introduced and disabled the PlantSim Challenge, many players have been left wondering how to become a PlantSim in the game without the challenge. In this tutorial I will go over the easiest ways to turn your Sims into PlantSims, along with all the information you need in order to care for your Sims in this state.

PlantSims do not have any special interactions or powers in the game, but you can always download the Revamped Plantsims Mod to enhance gameplay. Below is a list of ways to make your Sims become PlantSims in the game, along with how to reverse it as well.

Plant Matter

The first way to become a PlantSim involves eating ice cream. If you own The Sims 4 Cool Kitchen Stuff Pack, Sims can temporarily experience the cosmetic changes of a PlantSim. Sims who have at least a Level 8 in the Cooking Skill can create “Plant Matter” flavored ice using the ice cream machine that comes with the pack.

When they eat this type of ice cream, Sims will instantly receive the 4-hour “Green Life” moodlet, and cosmetic changes like green and leafy skin. Once the timer runs out on the special moodlet, the cosmetic changes will revert and Sims will look like themselves again.

This isn’t necessarily the same as becoming a regular PlantSim in the game, but it at least allows you to create very temporary PlantSim-like changes to a regular Sim.

Becoming a PlantSim (CHEATS)

Technically, without the PlantSim Challenge enabled in the game, the only real way to turn Sims into PlantSims is to cheat. However, there are two ways to do this. The first is simple and easy to do. Make sure cheats are enabled (testingcheats true), then shift + click a Sim and use the “Make Into PlantSim” option. This will immediately transform the Sim.

The second option is to use the buydebug cheat (bb.showhiddenobjects) and search for the “Forbidden Fruit of the PlantSim”. Eating this fruit will also instantly transform Sims. If you want the special tree that came with the PlantSim Challenge, search for the “Magic PlantSim Stump” and the “Magic Beans” in buydebug.

Becoming a PlantSim (NO CHEATS)

The game patch released on June 19th made several changes to the game as it relates to gardening & collecting. With the massive gardening overhaul the patch brought to the game, Sims are now able to purchase “Rare” seeds directly from their PC when they reach level 10 in the Gardening Skill. Magic Beans can now be found in these packs.

One of the changes made here is that you are able to collect all 6 Magical Beans in order to place them in the special “Magic PlantSim Stump” now found directly in buy mode without any cheats. Once you have collected all 6 beans, plant them into the stump, water it, and then your Sims can go into the portal and retrieve the “Fruit of the PlantSim”. Eating the fruit will instantly turn your Sims into a PlantSim. Plant the fruit to harvest more.

Caring for PlantSims

When the transformation completes, Sims receive cosmetic changes like green & leafy skin, a special PlantSim hairstyle, and special abilities like “Talking to Plants” regardless of their Gardening Skill Level, and “Absorbing Solar Energy” from Plants to fill their Hunger.

❗ Upon morphing into a PlantSim, Sims will receive the “Be the PlantSim” +1 Happy moodlet. This moodlet lasts for 5 days, and once it runs out, PlantSims will turn back into a regular human Sim. PlantSims will also receive the “Photosynthesizing” +2 Energized moodlet when outside in the sun.

The final transformation experienced is a change of motives. PlantSims have their Bladder motive replaced with “Water” and their Hunger motive is only satisfied by sunlight. This can be done by going outside, or absorbing solar energy from plants.

❗ NOTE: Wile absorbing energy from plants can be performed multiple times, the growth stage of plants will change. For example, if you have a blossoming plant in the game and absorb energy multiple times, the growth stage will reset to “Sprouted”.

PlantSims must also have enough water in order to photosynthesize, so if the water motive is low, they will not be able to satisfy their hunger need. PlantSims who do not satisfy the water motive will eventually “dry out” (which causes their hair to turn grey) and after 24 hours, their hunger will begin to deplete.

PlantSims who do not satisfy their needs will eventually receive the “Parched” and “Sun Starved” uncomfortable moodlets. This is the final warning to get them water. If PlantSims have not replenished their need for Water within 24 hours, they will perish.

Reversing PlantSims

Whether you’re experimenting with ice cream, or creating an actual PlantSim in the game, you’re probably wondering how to reverse the effects of PlantSims and do away with them all together. There are a few ways to do this, so select the one easiest for you.

Sometimes it’s better not to eat random fruit!
  1. Wait. Eventually, the PlantSim transformation will wear off. Ice Cream related moodlets end after 4 hours, and regular PlantSim moodlets end in 5 days. If you don’t want it to end, make sure you stock up on the special fruit. Eat and transform again.

  3. Cheating. You can remove moodlets from Sims by using the sims.remove_all_buffs cheat. However, this cheat will only work if you have  the AllCheats mod that enables these cheats again. They were removed a while back and do not work anymore without mods in the game. WARNING: This cheat will remove ALL moodlets, not just one.
  4. Mods. Using the UI Cheats Extension Mod, right click on the PlantSim moodlet and it will go away. Once these moodlets are gone from the Sim panel, they become human.
