The Sims 4 Community Blog: Ruthless_KK On Amazing Kitchens
If you’ve opened up the Gallery, you’ve likely seen some amazing creations, from absurd mansions to mind-bending homes. And we often see the same question: how do they do that?! That’s what inspired us to invite members of the community to teach you how they build the amazing things you can find on the Gallery.
Today, we wanted to show off ways to upgrade and improve your Sim’s kitchen! We invited popular builder Ruthless_KK to write up some tips on creating an amazing kitchen in The Sims 4. Below is her guide*.
Whether your Sims are preparing a quick midnight snack or a lavish dinner party, the build catalog has all of the elements you need to whip up a fun and functional kitchen.
While everyone has their own recipe for what makes a perfect kitchen, here are some of my own favorite ingredients:
Step one: Make sure you have plenty of space. There is a lot happening in a typical family kitchen and Sims tend to gather there. Be sure that there is plenty of room for everyone to move around. I try to place the most used objects (prep area, stove and sink) at opposite points around the room to keep traffic jams at a minimum. 2 squares of open space in front of these objects and between an island and the counters seem to make it easier for Sims to move freely.
Step two: Mix things up a little by using different counter and island shapes. Make sure the automatic counter tool is turned off to see all of the shapes and sizes available, including triangular and rounded sections. Clicking on the image will give you a preview of how each section will appear in game. Don’t forget to check out the upper cabinet options as well! There are many different selections including solid front or glass front cabinets with dishes or other objects showing through.
Step three: Add a dash of visual interest with a mix of textures. An accent wall of brick or a gleam of metal can really spice things up and keep your look from being flat or boring. Don’t be afraid to use exterior wall textures or concrete inside your room. I like to use a couple of different wall textures together to create a focal point or a new wall pattern.
Step four: Heat things up with a bold color choice…or two….or more! Choose a contrasting color for your walls to make sure those cabinets pop. Multiple shades can lend a festive feeling to your room, while a cool, monochromatic color scheme adds a touch of calm sophistication.
Step five: Plan a place for your Sims to sit down and enjoy their meal. When you are running short on room, a couple of stools placed at a kitchen island can easily take the place of a table. If you are planning to have a formal dining room, try to have it close by and easily accessible to keep Sims from spending too much time walking around. For a more casual and realistic look, consider an open concept floor plan.
A handy tip: To give your kitchen a lived in look, don’t forget to get creative with the clutter. Just don’t go overboard: Sims still need empty counter space to prepare and serve meals.
And there you have it, a perfectly functional and fashionable kitchen! You can find some of these kitchens along with all my creations in the Gallery under ID: ruthless_kk. Happy Simming!
The Sims 4 Household Showcase: The Hope Family
Welcome to a brand new series here on SimsVIP! This series is here to showcase household families from the Simming community, and let the readers shine bright! For the first week I thought I would kick this off by showing you the family I’ve been playing. Let’s meet the Hope family!
Household Members
This all started with Brenda and Colten in Create A Sim. The two moved into a starter home built by the amazing creator ruthless_kk and can also be found on the gallery here. I have since then moved them into a bigger house that was made by ruthless_kk also.
Colten Hope
Colten is the husband of Brenda and the father of two boys. His life started out as a young adult and he jumped right into the astronaut career. He has spent the first few weeks of his life just getting everything together. Now as a low-orbit specialist, he is making good money and plans to take his family on a dream vacation! Colten is active, family oriented and a bit of a romancer.
Brenda Hope:
Brenda started out as a stay at home mother and a skilled painter since she was young. Brenda is a creative young woman who is also a bit of a foodie. Being very family oriented, she enjoys spending her time with the family playing games. She recently started in the painting career to help bring in some extra money so the family could afford to move into the bigger house.
Lucas Hope:
Lucas was Brenda and Colton’s first born son and is current in the Young Adult age. Lucas is an active bro that is very self-assured and quite the romancer just like his father. While only level one as a secret agent, he is focusing on his fitness skill to improve. He is somewhat skilled in cooking and hardly starts any fires! Having just ended a relationship that didn’t work out, he is now looking for “The One”.
Trent is a neat perfectionist and a bookworm who is also Lucas’ twin brother. At a young age he was very shy and kept mostly to himself. While still in his childhood, his brother was his best friend and not much has changed even into adulthood. Trent spends most of his days at a computer practicing the writing skill. Trent does not currently have a job as his writing takes top priority. I mean who else could write the amazing story of Lucas, The Spy!
The Domicile
Now that we’ve met the family, let’s take a look into where they spend most of their day!
Living Room
Their living room is just big enough for all of them to hang out and have a fun family game night or watch television. The color of the wall and blinds match and it provides a very warm atmosphere.
Kitchen and Dining Area
The kitchen is an open floor plan to the living and dining room which makes entertaining guests easy and keeping an eye on those pesky kids!
Parents Room
When I found out that this house provided the parents with their own master bathroom, I was happy beyond words. Every morning without fail each Sim would need to use the bathroom at the same time and it was a nightmare! You will also notice an easel in the parents room making it the perfect spot for Brenda to work on her painting skill!
Lucas’s Room
Lucas get his own bathroom and a double bed. There is a desk without a computer (I really need to purchase him one for his spy work.) There is a chair in his room that he can use to sit on while reading books to increase his skills.
Trent’s Bedroom
Trent’s room is perfect for him. I purchased a fancy desk so he could work on his writing. You know, just without a computer. See a pattern here? You can also see his bathroom to the left.
Guest Room
Welcome to the guest room! At least until one of them has another baby. Although with my luck it will be triplets! There are two beds in this room and a dollhouse. I kept this room mostly the same as what you get when you purchase it from the gallery. The only change is that the beds in there use to be Trent’s and Lucas’.

How To Give Your Sims The Perfect Bathroom
Don’t Forget the Towels!
If you’ve opened up The Gallery, you’ve likely seen some amazing creations, from absurd mansions to mind-bending homes. And we often see the same question: how do they do that?! Which is why we started Builder Tips, which gives members of the community a chance to teach you how they build the amazing things you can find on The Gallery.
Today, we wanted to start with one of the most important rooms in the house: the bathroom! We invited popular builder Zita1966 to write up some tips on creating an amazing bathroom in The Sims 4. Below is her guide!
Thank you for the invite, I am truly honored. Even though I do consider myself as a very versatile builder, I do like to build my bathrooms to be easy accessible and playable. Most of all, they need to look realistic, like in a real life house.
I created the above bathroom in these easy five steps:
Step one: Start with a small room. Bathrooms don’t have to be very big – in fact, the smaller you make them, the more realistic they can look. While a 6×3 room might seem too small for a functional bathroom, it’ll actually make it look more like the ones in your home!
Step two: Make use of barriers and half walls. After you’ve build the shape itself, you’re going to start dividing it up into different sections. You’ll need a 3×1 spot for the toilet, and a 2×1 spot for a shower. 2×2 is big enough for a bath tub, too. Plot them out, and make sure you leave enough room between them. In this illustration, I also made a 2×2 spot for plants as a feature in the bathroom. Using the smallest half wall for this would be perfect. I left the grid on here, so that you can see the layout/Blue print of the room. To remove a grid you can press “G” on your keyboard.
Step three: Paint the room and pick a floor. It might seem early, but doing this before you start plopping down the objects is important for aesthetic. The walls and floors will help blend the room together and you can coordinate your color scheme for the bathroom. In this example, I’m using the amazing paint from the new The Sims 4 Spa Day Game Pack*, but you can use whatever you choose or have available. There are amazing options, even in the base game selections.
Step four: Choose and place the plumbing objects. Toilets, showers, bathtubs, sinks – all of those objects need to be placed into the slots especially created for them. I prefer to use kitchen cabinets in my bathrooms, placing sinks on them. This creates a sleek and stylish look for your bathroom.
There are other cool tricks for bathroom sinks, like activating the Move Objects Cheat [bb.moveobjects on] and sliding sinks into the wall by placing them on tables which you placed first. This can give a brand new look to your sink and wash-up area. You can use any wall table that you want for the desired effect. The problem is that your sink might not be usable in-game, and therefore is only recommended if you are not going to use the sink as a functional item.
Step Five: Personalize your bathroom. By placing clutter that can be found under the Decoration tab, you can really bring your own personality into the design. And by using the Move Objects Cheat, you can also place objects into those tight little spots where they normally would not fit.
A handy tip: Only use the Move Objects Cheat on items that are decorative. Once you start using it on playable items, it affects the gameplay of that room.
And there you have it, a perfect sensible and realistic bathroom! You can find this bathroom along with all my creations in The Gallery under ID: Zita1966. Happy Simming!

EA Blog: The Five Ice Cream Flavors You Should Know About

The Sims 4 Cool Kitchen Stuff* released this week, and brought with it a variety of items made to upgrade and outfit your Sim’s kitchen. It also includes new gameplay by way of the Ice Cream Machine – a perfect treat for any foodie Sims looking to create decadent desserts. There are 30 different flavors to create, many of which you’re likely familiar with. Electronic Arts: Babs L’Amour Join ‘She Lives To Play’
EA introduced two new female characters to the “She Lives To Play“ Campaign during Gamescom. Among the two characters is Babs L’Amour from The Sims 4! Below is an excerpt from the article on EA’s blog.
“The team thinks that representation is important, so when creating the tools to create Sims, it focuses on inclusion, and being able to make whoever the players want to make. Since The Sims 4 is a life simulation game, it gives you the power to create and control people – so our players need to be able to make Sims that look like them, and look like their friends and family. You can make Babs an astronaut who doesn’t care about finding love, or make a Sim that befriends – or marries her. She can be whatever you want her to be.” – Lyndsay Pearson, Senior Producer, The Sims 4.
