SimGurus took to Twitter today to give more info on The Sims 4 Seasons Expansion Pack. Confirmed today are umbrellas, more information on calendars, and more!
Nope, the thermostat will take care of all your cooling / heating needs!

Certain plant species will go dormant in different seasons (like winter). During that time it's probably better to leaf them alone 🌱
— Emory (@SimGuruEmory) June 4, 2018
Both TS3 and TS4 use proprietary engines built in-house. Unity wasn't really ubiquitous until a few years after TS3's release. Engine choice is an interesting convo that we could spend weeks talk about, but in the end it's a combination of capabilities, customization, and timing.

Sim birthdays will appear on the calendar when they're about to age up. You're free to schedule them a birthday party beforehand to age them up on your terms, but the Calendar basically gives you advance warning on when the auto-aging will happen.
— Emory (@SimGuruEmory) June 4, 2018
For the storytellers who play with auto-aging off, a fun way to use the Calendar is to create a custom holiday and name it <Simname>'s Birthday with traditions that suit that Sim! You'll still have to fit in an actual Birthday event somewhere to age them up manually though.
— Emory (@SimGuruEmory) June 4, 2018
There's an umbrella stand in build mode that your Sims can fetch umbrellas from. NPCs that appear while it's raining might already have that ☂️covered ☂️ with their own umbrellas.
— Emory (@SimGuruEmory) June 4, 2018
Yes, that is exactly what you'll be able to use it for 🗓️
— Emory (@SimGuruEmory) June 4, 2018
Each neighborhood in the world will roughly follow the same forecast for that day, but if it's raining in one and you travel to another, it might just be really cloudy, or it might be pouring. Different worlds have different forecasts, but it's possible to for 2 to have the same.

#CalendarHype I just got out of a meeting and have to prep for another. Maybe we need to hire another… pic.twitter.com/E07vX6ojKt

So much to do before we fly out Friday for #EAPlay2018! Hopefully Los Angeles isn't like Willow Creek or we'll end up like this poor bunny. #CalendarHype pic.twitter.com/ZJDTnrFWFA
— Emory (@SimGuruEmory) June 5, 2018
Worlds all will have the same seasons, but they behave differently. For example, Oasis Springs will have winter at the same time as Willow Creek, but there won't be heavy snowfall in the desert world.
— Emory (@SimGuruEmory) June 5, 2018
It's 3D. We'd call it 4D but we haven't figured out how to emit smell from your computers yet.
— Emory (@SimGuruEmory) June 5, 2018
Also wanted to decorate my current Sims house a bit at the start of June.
Happy #PrideMonth pic.twitter.com/VkCaR0qI6U— George Pigula (@SimGuruGeorge) June 1, 2018
The decorations are applied to eaves or friezes. So if you make sure to include a frieze around a flat roof the decoration can be hung.

I've got all kinds of cool info on holidays I've been holding off on for now. Check out future blogs and info from @EAPlay I'll start dropping info when I feel its the right time.
Also, I like keeping people in suspense!

The player will have various types of control and automation. Will discuss at a later date.
— George Pigula (@SimGuruGeorge) June 1, 2018
You can celebrate those holidays with just Seasons. Packs like Spooky Stuff will let you add more flavor to holidays, but they are not required.
I know people are curious so I'll talk more about this near launch.
Spooky Stuff does look cool though!https://t.co/Rb8LloUtJd
— George Pigula (@SimGuruGeorge) June 3, 2018
Yep. Father winter doesn't just invade random homes! On holidays like Winterfest he will visit homes who have already set out piles of presents.
A fireplace may help!— George Pigula (@SimGuruGeorge) June 4, 2018
Yep. But I will tell you he only stays employed while outside of your home. If you marry him and try for any Winter Babies the job gets passed to another.
Its a demanding full time job, so someone else takes up the mantle.
— George Pigula (@SimGuruGeorge) June 4, 2018
You are not limited to Winterfest or one of the piles of presents. pic.twitter.com/MTs0MWEeOF
— George Pigula (@SimGuruGeorge) June 4, 2018
A goal for Holidays was that the player is really in control. Our really talented designers wanted to do the most so that you could tell your story. I'll show how this works in the live stream.

Its so great. I love just sitting at this little overlook and playing chess with the rain going. The thunder rolls in and sounds so nice.
Note, this gif is looping. Lighting and Thunder don't trigger every 2 seconds in game.
— George Pigula (@SimGuruGeorge) June 5, 2018
You will have multiple options to control decorations per holiday or for every day.
— George Pigula (@SimGuruGeorge) June 5, 2018
Hi Rudy! A blog was never planned but we were hoping to do a forum post. Unfortunately we were SUPER busy prepping for EA Play so we were unable to make this happen. Many of the questions have already been answered and more will be revealed during the Livestream next week!
— Kate 🔜 EA Play (@SimGuruKate) June 4, 2018
Maybe there will be something else to do…
— Grant Rodiek (@SimGuruGrant) June 4, 2018
Hi @SimGuruKate @SimGuruEmory @SimGuruGrant will we be able to open windows to cool down our Sims house?
— rachel🍀 (@rachellynn117) June 4, 2018
No. Currently windows are not interactive. To do this we would have had to update every window ever made AND every window still TO be made. It's the time of thing that would be cool, but is a lower priority than other things that stand out more. https://t.co/6oMAa14FOQ
— Grant Rodiek (@SimGuruGrant) June 4, 2018
@SimGuruGrant will there be a volcano in seasons? 🙂
— Asad Ch (@5ecretbuddy) June 4, 2018
— Grant Rodiek (@SimGuruGrant) June 4, 2018
There ARE certain things you need to do, but I cannot recall them off the top of my head. It isn't a super buried easter egg, though. @SimGuruGeorge would know.
— Grant Rodiek (@SimGuruGrant) June 4, 2018
Ultimately, when adding four seasons, climates for all four, to address as much of the world as possible, it's tough to do everything. It means we're going to delight some people and frustrate others. The best we can do is do our best with what we make and listen to you all.
— Grant Rodiek (@SimGuruGrant) June 4, 2018
Okay, I need to step away from Twitter. Thanks for your comments, as always. Some cool stuff coming up, including:
1. More Seasons blogs and videos.
2. A seasons live stream.
3. EA PLAY NEXT WEEK OH MY.
4. Gurus talking about stuff before we're told we can, probably.— Grant Rodiek (@SimGuruGrant) June 4, 2018
Someone asked about the transitions earlier. Well, I was up near the waterfalls in Selvadorada when the rain rolled in. Time to head back to my Villa.
